It was scary as hell dude, they got pissed because we took their beers and poured them out and made them leave, if they had not been acting like assholes we could have all went about our nights.

Fry chef at Arthur Treacher's Fish and Chips.
Not. I have a tie for two. Regular employment: My best job was as a Regional Sales Manager for Ingram Micro, which was Fortune #42 at the time. I was responsible for $90+ million in revenue from key accounts and had the opportunity to learn from some of the best, brightest, most talented colleagues and learned a lot about life in corporate America and how to work and play well with others. Sometimes. ![]() Self employment: Started a small cad/cam light manufacturing business, with a specialty making custom grips for 1911's using exotic woods and inlays on the high end, to "production" work contracting with Investment Arms of Fort Collins CO for grips to a limited edition series of guns commemorating Sgt. York and Robert E. Lee employing wood from trees that grew on their respective properties.

Re: What was your favorite job?
Hard to say what my fav was. It could be the summer I spent working on my uncle's farm learning what real work was (first task was to clean a hog pen that was about 8" deep and had been sitting a bit) or waiting tables at a dinner theater in high school (lots of extras to that one) but I think the absolute fav is fueling the airliners at Stapleton. I love airplane people and this was one of those jobs that you worked with good people all over (even the tools weren't that bad), got to work out, had times of extreme activity and then some serious downtime. Every so often, something interesting would happen like arguing with the cop blocking the road protecting Air Force One when you're sitting in the fuel truck trying to take it to the people waiting to fuel Air Force One.
It went - "you can't get past until that plane leaves". "That plane's not going to leave until I get past". |

It is the scariest thing on earth when someone pulls a gun and they are the type of person who would do it and kill without care whether drunk or sober. Tough to talk them down, best you can do is distract and take control. While I do miss the excitement, I'll watch a good action movie now instead. Plus I think I'd look like a 12 year old in my black security shirts after all the injuries/surgeries, so I think I'd be laughed out of the joint. ![]() |

Re: What was your favorite job?
I gotta say that my current job is may favorite, even though I have only been here a short time right now.
I have had some pretty crappy jobs in my life, from working in soybean fields, to a pizza restaurant, to 12 shifts at a plastics factory. I'm pretty young, but I know enough to realize how truly blessed I am.

Re: What was your favorite job?
I've had some good and fun jobs. Working Baskin Robbins as a teen packed on a few pounds! Working in a bookstore for four weeks saw four large boxes of books make their way home with me - thankfully I only worked there for four weeks!
My favorite and most adventurous job was the four years I spent in the USMC as an 0351. Truly miss the camraderie and the travel. My current job is definitely nice though - I spend all day tinkering with computers, learning new things EVERY day, helping our customers with their problems, surfing the 'net, lurking here on CS. Plus it's an air-conditioned job - sweet after three years construction work!

Re: What was your favorite job?
Other than what I do now my favorite job was working at the golf course in the summers and on weekends in High School and college. Got to drive the range tractor, service the carts and worked on the course maintenance crew. Got to play free golf and cause trouble. It was a great time

From 1973 - 1981 (through college and grad school) I was an ocean lifeguard in Seaside Heights, NJ.
Lots of girls and lots of partying!! Of course, back then if you contracted anything you just took some pills; it didn't kill ya!! Lots of fun for sure!! |

Re: What was your favorite job?
Cool thread.
I've done all the normal kid jobs, paper route, lawn mowing and some less common kid jobs, professional house painting, General Contracting and then I went to college and worked summers at a company that made Timber Frame Homes. Awesome. But I think my favorite job was delivering pizzas for Papa John's in college. I drove a '77 VW bug around like a banshee. It was a college town and it wasn't big so I made lots of money since deliveries were so close. The friendships at the store I worked were great and we hung out a lot after and before work. Delivering in a college town is something else. I delivered pizzas to some pretty wild parties and all sorts of other activities too. Babes love to smell the pizza guy, what more can I say. I managed to put myself through college delivering pizzas and ironically I had more fun doing that job sometimes then I do with the one I have now. But, the pay isn't quite the same delivering pizza... great for a college kid but not so good when you have a family.

Re: What was your favorite job?
I've enjoyed all my jobs... well not all. Cooking 100+ lbs of bacon Sat/Sun morning at the dining hall on campus wasn't so fun. My first job was fry cook/dish washer at a pit beef joint. Pay sucked, but the food was fantastic, and the clowns I worked with made for an interesting night. Never once complained about doing the dishes at home after that job. Second job was cashier at Best Buy. Pay didn't suck quite as bad, the employee discount was awesome, but standing in a 2'x2' square for 8 hrs blows. Now I'm a chemical engineer for the army, great pay, interesting work, sometimes too much stress. I guess my current job is my favorite, but I haven't found any job I love enough to keep doing if I win the lottery!

Re: What was your favorite job?
I had two jobs I really loved. First one I had for 9 years, I installed playgrounds for a large company. Eight of us traveled all over the eastern US building playgrounds at Schools, businesses, stadiums, and lots of other places. We were on the road about 300 days a year living out of motels. It was hard work but the pay was great ($1500/week) and the work was fun. The company paid for everything while we were on the road so all our money was sent home. I was able to buy the house I live in now. The other job I really liked was for three months a year, for 5 years, for $2000 cash a week, I picked grapes with 5 other guys. 15 hours a day in the blazing heat, with bees attacking us constantly.
The worst job I ever had was when my dad got me a summer job with the county. I rode around in a big truck, with a really vile dude, picking up roadkill. We would load up as many dead animals as we could, then drop them off at a rendering plant for disposal. I was 15 years old. |

Re: What was your favorite job?
Working in a tropical fish store in the early 70s. I did it pretty much to help out the owner who was a friend, but we had some great times. Saltwater tanks were just starting to become popular and trips to the wholesalers to pick up fish and supplies were more of an adventure than real work.

Re: What was your favorite job?
Interesting, I was a lifeguard up the road in Mantoloking from 56-61 while I was in school. [note most favorite jobs are when you're young and have no responsibilities] Spent all day figuring out which party you were going to that night.
