Nashville, TN Gas Shortage Panic

So here I sit with a quarter tank of gas. 95 % of the stations are out of gas. Those that still have it will be out quickly tonight due to the long lines. Well, I'm not ready to wait in line one hour or more for panic buying.

Truth is, the oil pipeline feeding Nashville is working at full capacity plus three barges (already on the way up river, just in case because of the hurricane) arrived today and offloaded 3 million gallons of gas and diesel fuel. So, these idiots here decided by some lemming method of communication that there is a gas shortage. Well, yes there is because everyone is filling up everything they own. Stupid lemmings.

Thank goodness it's a weekend. Gas will continue to be delivered to stations over the weekend and through next week. I feel confident I can find gas left over from the lemmings.

Nashville. Geeez.

Are the stations price-gouging at all?

Re: Nashville, TN Gas Shortage Panic

We had the same thing last week, here in western KY. Gas went from low $3.40's to high $3.50's in one day, because of...well, because.

That evening, rumors flew that gas was gonna be short in supply and it went up another $0.10 or so and the lemming run was on. Went up to $3.99 or so, then skyrocketed up to the $4.50 range on the west side of our town that evening while folks formed lines at the pumps that were an hour or so long. On the other side of the county, most stations stayed around $3.80, until word got out, then they went up to the $4 mark. Next day, stations were running out. But word got out about the price runup, and Gov Steve issued a state-wide emergency. This meant any instances of gouging could and would be investigated and prosecuted. The $4.50 range stations dialed it back to the $4 mark immediately.

Pitiful.

I filled up everything I own last Thursday night. Does that make me a forward thinking lemming?

Re: Nashville, TN Gas Shortage Panic

I was in West TN today and everyone outside of Nashville has fuel at $3.89 - $3.99 a gallon. Why is it only Nashville is having a shortage? (I filled up before getting back into Nashville)

Yesterday a nearyby station had gas at 4.23. They ran out. They got a new supply early evening. The new price was 4.49. Go figure. Average price in town yesterday morning was 3.99 area wide (gasbuddy.com)

Re: Nashville, TN Gas Shortage Panic

In Slidell, La our gas prices bumped up to 3.79 at prices like Racetrack and Fleet as Ike was approaching the coastline. The prices have since dropped back to $3.65. A couple of station had trouble keeping the lower grade in stock but had the mid and high grades. One truck stop had it's gas priced at $3.99 while the Texaco next to it had gas at 3.79 and the Exxon a block away had gas for $3.69. Go figure.

Before clicking the link:

-- The clip probably isn't appropriate for work, although I don't suppose to know what it's like where you work.
-- The clip is almost 4 minutes long and some of the best stuff is toward the end.
-- If you aren't familiar with Nashville, it may be a waste of your time.

With those caveats, enjoy.

It's the same way here in Atlanta. Every station is out of gas, and the ones that do have it have lines spilling out onto the street and are charging $4.22+ a gallon

Re: Nashville, TN Gas Shortage Panic

This is getting absurd! I have not been able to fill up in almost 2 weeks! Luckily i live 10 min from the office, but i have been restricted to either sitting at home after work or go riding around to find gas and sit in line for an hour. I heard of a gas station that had cops sitting outside it telling people with more than 1/2 a tank to get out of line and stop making things so bad for everyone else. Hell, CNN was making fun of us the other day.

Tom, You asked about Price Gouging. I heard there were over 5,000 complaints last 2 weekends ago. My brother saw the station next to his house raise gas 4 times in 6 hours. Same gas, 4 prices...HUMMMM....

My neighbor went to a station to fill up and they would allow you to get 10 gal. of gas, BUT if you went inside and spend $10, you could get 5 more gallons!

Someone needs to step in here and tell these FOOLS who sit in line when they dont need gas and keep the rest of us sane people from getting any to just calm down and everything will go back to normal!

Wow! I feel better!

Re: Nashville, TN Gas Shortage Panic

Gas prices here in Kingsport are around $3.89 per gallon and have been for a week now (after jumping from around $3.50 up to $4.30 + then slowly dropping back down). Drive an hour south to east Knoxville and gas can be had for $3.39. That's a $.50 difference! WTF!

That's insane, Connor!

Luckily in Chicago we are usually amongst the highest gas prices in the nation to begin with, so no gouging is necessary.
