I just walk nice and slow across the street and if I see someone is hauling a$$ around the corner I'll just stop in the middle of the road or slow my walk to a crawl. Not the smartest idea in the world by any means but it slows them down for the moment usually. Unless its one of those women talking on the phone, text messaging, and trying to find something in her pursue or should I say over night bag with how much crap they put in there.(And they wonder why they can't find something in there.) Those are the ones you have to watch out for because heaven knows they won't see you or you children until its too late.
Actually a lot of truth in your post....more accidents are caused by "distracted driving" than by speeding in this day and age.

Re: Fast drivers in neighborhood

No snow removal here in NC, but the EMS prevents the speedbumps - it takes too long to get an ambulance to someone who needs help with the speedbumps - I guess that means they work

Dude, this is a neighborhood, this determines who can not GO OVER THE SPEED LIMIT! Am I wrong? Am I wrong?

Re: Fast drivers in neighborhood

There's a very similar program in my area that engages / empowers the general public called Road Watch. At the end of the day we need to teach our children about road saftey, but we would all be better off without these knuckle heads speeding in our residential areas.

Probably the most effective around my area has been citizens using digital recorders to record the day, time, vehicle, and driver. These then get turned over to the police.

Be an effective partner in safety, not another complaining do-nothing.

Three weeks ago my neighbors son lost 4 tire valves...It is like they walked away. Two weeks ago his son's wife got her car towed. Out of state 2004 tags.

They crawl now.

Maybe they just need a better design. We don't have the old traditional skinny high type here - these things are anywhere from 4 to 5 feet wide. Picture a ramp up - flat top - ramp down. The have yellow warning paint of the travel side.

Actually here is a picture that is similar to them:

You can still do about 20 mph over them - not required to almost stop like the older types. And the snow plows have no problems with them as they are actually cut into the road surface and not just applied over top.

Definitely different from the ones I have seen around here, Ron.

Sunzabitches whiz past my house at 55 mph.

(Oh, that's right; that's the speed limit - never mind.)

Re: Fast drivers in neighborhood

I think you need to do speed checks of your own.

I had that same issue on my street, untill I took matters in my own hands. It involved a half empty beer can flung at the jack a$$ that always drove down my street to fast.

Needless to say I dont have that problem anymore.

same problem here, 2.1 inches of clearance up front, its just a spoiler but its annoying.

my mom started putting crap in the road when she got tired of it when i was a kid. started putting sand bags in the road, rocks or something. for about a week and traffic dropped on the road and never really picked up, people had to slow down to drive around the crap ended up getting annoyed and stoped using it as a pass through.
