Call me a skeptic, but I don't think these guys have a clue how old any of this shit it. These guys are getting "excited" because they figure they've found something that is hundreds of millions of years older than they knew previously. Sheeet, there are cigars we can't even figure out when were made, let alone where. But hey, if it makes these guys happy, good for them.

I'm gonna go sit on the 4 billion year old rock and smoke the oldest cigar I have.

Since this isn't in the jokes forum I'll assume you're being serious. Geology is a very precise science, not to be compared to determining the age of cigars. Geologists use scanning electron microscopy on samples to study of how materials, structures, processes and organisms have changed over time.

It was tongue-in-cheek

It is a precise science, I guess I still laugh about it because they throw around millions of years like its nothing.

I have a degree in Geology. Geology uses the scientific method and often uses very precise tools when and where it can, but it is not "a very precise science". Hence its continual changes, particularly over the last sixty years.

When you're speaking of 4.5+ billion years, a few or several million is "nothing".
