Any old school truck guys

At work tonight I was lookin at those "Auto Trader" magazines and Im lookin to buy a newer truck, around a 2000-2005 and they suggested restoring an old Chevy or something like that. I was lookin through them and saw a 1969 Chevy C10 for sale. This thing was sweet, lifted, big tires, just awesome classic southerner truck. Later on that night a guy who hangs out at the store stopped by and I told him what we were thinkin and he has a 1977 3 speed automatic Chevy C10/K10 with AWD and he has a transfer case I can put in to make it manual hubs and 4H and 4L. I dont know the condition it is yet but he says it needs a whold hell lot of work but I can have it for FREE. The restoration would be a total rebuild and I would be putting in a new crate engine probably a 350 with 375 HP with a 4 speed manual.

Have any gorillas taken on a project like this? Any suggestions about what I should put in it? Any help is very much appreciated!

Ive never priced them out since I dont yet own a car with one of those motors but if you call up a local junk yard they will probably have a few laying around. These have been shoehorned in everything from trucks to gtos, to fbodies, to vettes

Projects are awesome and free is the right price!!!

I bought a 99 Dodge Dakota new...in 99....

Unless upkeep becomes == to a payment I plan on keeping it. One day it will be "oldschool"!! It has treated me REALLY well over the years !

Re: Any old school truck guys

Well I went and looked at the truck today and its not lookin good. Its behind a barn and to get it out we would have to move 6 or so old truck and Im not sure if they even run and we would also have to fill in a ditch/stream. The cab is rusted out at the floor pans, it would pretty much need all new sheet metal and the hood springs are rusted so the hood is open to the elements. The engine is no good cause the air cleaner is off and its been sittin out back there since atleast 96 or 97. The guy had a 70 Ford F-100 he would sell for $1000 but its only 2 wheel drive and has a long bed but the 302 in it starts right up. So Im at the point of looking for an almost complete truck that needs some work and there is ine out in California for $6500, I just need to get it back.

My first vehicle was a similar 'project'.

I had a 1966 Bronco that I fully restored when I was 16-18 then sold it like a dumbass.
Frame off resto... man was that fun!

Re: Any old school truck guys

FOUND A NEW TRUCK its like a lake 70's to mid 80's chevy (I was so excited I forgot to ask the kid on the phone). It has a 400 with a 4 speed. The body is perfect with like 16x12 tires, trans outta a 1 ton truck and a brand new rear end. the only thing wrong is the starter went and he took it to a garage and the kid who "fixed" it did it wrong and the starter broke some teeth on either the fly wheel, starter or both so all I would have to do and Im willing to do is replace the fly wheel and starter. The price is 3250 obo so if I get him down to 3000 Im doin good cause thats what my explorer cost when I bought it. The body is 99.99% spotless and I think it has a 3" suspension lift(says my friend) but it looks like a body lift to me. Um once I figure out how to get pics off my phone I'll get some pics up

Re: Any old school truck guys

I had a 66 C-10 that I sold about 2 years ago, and still miss her to this very day. She wasn't the most appealing on the eyes when I sold her, but she was at the stage of where the looks was all that needed to be done.

After that, I bought a 84 K-10 and loved her also, didn't really get to do alot of restoring on her, had to down size some to get somethings around the house done.

My advice is find something that is just outside of your mechanical limits that way you don't get too far over your head, but still can learn a new thing or two. Have fun with it and don't try to do everything all at one time. Remember make it safe, make it fast, make it pretty.
