As cool as it would be to have my own smoking room/ mancave I would rather have work shop. I'm very content smoking outside.

Build a room in the corner for the wife and take the rest of the house as your cave

If that doesn't work, which would be a shame, leave it open so you've got some room to move around and if need be, host a garage herf or four

You can always sacrifice a vehicle and leave it outside and add a patio table, chairs, tv, cd player, beer fridge it all depends on if you have "smoking" guests over often. I would hide the man cave as a workshop and have the best of both worlds!
I agree. In a basement I'd definitely make a separate room for smoking. But in a garage, I'd set up a workshop with a little space for a chair and small table. Then I could gaze out over my man-kingdom filled with cars, bikes, and power tools and see that it is good!

True, true....but being in SoCal myself, there are plenty of times when it's too chilly or windy to be sitting outside for a good hour to enjoy a cigar. And of course, there's the occasional day out of 365 when it rains. But seriously, I too would love to make a smoking room. I live pretty close to the ocean so it gets very damp and foggy much of the time. It'd be great to have a room with some comfy chairs and/or a sofa, a nice flat panel TV, maybe a stereo, minifridge, etc. So I can definitely understand your interest in making a smoking room. For those times when you want to stay in.

We don't have basements out West, Josh! I'd love one!

Oh no! Not in California!!

Seriously, though, I'd probably go with either making an entirely closed room or the hip-walled off area. I've got a convertible so I'd likely seal off the smoking area completely so the smoke doesn't permeate the car (or the rest of the junk I'm storing in the garage).

Hey! Nice sig Scud!

This is exactly what I used to do. I use the garage when the boys come over, (even though I have a room) it is more comfortable to relax in the garage door open. I would leave it open, you hardly ever need to smoke inside here in So Cal..BTW where in So Cal do you live?

I'd have to have a room. I wouldn't want to look at the clutter of a garage while trying to relax and more importantly I would not want to be reminded of all the projects I never finished.

That's a good point, I can fit more people if I leave it open. With all the stuff I plan on putting in the area, TV (I'm gonna have the Dish guy wire up the garage), fridge, furniture, I'm not sure how much room I'll have for a workshop

The house is in Perris, which is east of Riverside, south of Moreno Valley.

Re: 3 Car Garage, 2 Car Garage Door

If you do decide to make an enclosed room consider making it a free-floating structure that would be easy to tear down if you later decide to move. I know a number of people who have built home theaters in the spare bays of their garages out here in no-basement land and they always make them free-standing so they can dismantle them later. It's hard to sell a house once you've permanently taken a chunk out of the garage.

Hmmm... hadn't thought of that.
