3 Car Garage, 2 Car Garage Door

The wife and I just bought a house. The garage is the size of a 3 car, but the door is the size of a 2 car. The third section has a wall with a regular sized window where the door would go and was an option for a 5th bedroom.

The garage will be my smoking area, so I have been kicking around the idea of framing up a wall around the area, and making it into a mancave. There is no HVAC to the area, but I have a window AC unit that I could put in.

On the other hand, if I build a room, I don't think I will have room to put in a workshop, and still park the cars inside the garage.

What do you think guys, should I build a room, or leave it open?

Honestly, I'd leave it open. The thought of a smoking room sounds cool as hell, but I personally enjoy sitting outside smoking. Being boxed up in a little room would irritate me. If I were to enclose it, I'd make it a walk in humi.

I'd build a room, you never know when you will want a few minutes to yourself and can go in there, have a stick and think.

What's wrong with a man cave/workshop?

Re: 3 Car Garage, 2 Car Garage Door

I'm not quite sure how to do the walk in humi. I don't know if I would be able to get it insulated enough to maintain a proper temperature. I'm going to build a cabinet humi out of a giant oak headboard that my wife insisted that we buy, but has since decided that she hates

My wife is good about letting me have time to myself to relax and have a smoke. If she wants me, walls will not be enough to stop her

The space isn't quite big enough for both. The furnace and waterheater take up some of the space.

Thanks for the comments guys!!

Put in a hip wall between the garage and the man cave. That way you have the sitting area seperated from the garage, but still have all the open air space of the full garage.

A man needs his room! If you are like me than a workshop would be the way to go, because I can still smoke in it (have my cake and eat it to) Not only will you need a/c a bit of heat wouldnt hurt either. You can always sacrifice a vehicle and leave it outside and add a patio table, chairs, tv, cd player, beer fridge it all depends on if you have "smoking" guests over often. I would hide the man cave as a workshop and have the best of both worlds!

That is true

I was planning on running cable to the garage so I can hook up a tv, so I'd like that under a roof. Right now, I sit on the porch and watch through the slider

go for the room. An ionic breeze or similar and exhaust system will keep you smoke free. Best of luck with your endeavor

show pics when you are finished
