Booked a cruise

My wife and I booked a cruise to Mexico yesterday. On Jan. 24th we will be on the HAL OOsterdam for a relaxing seven day cruise. We even went the extra mile and got a balcony, I pity those non-smokers down wind of me!: chk

If it's not too late, you might want to check out www.cruisecompete.com and see if you can do better on your rate or if your agent would compete. I booked a Celebrity cruise with the wife a few years ago to the Western Caribbean and that site blew everybody away. At dinner one night aboard the boat with other couples, one couple suggested going around the table 'confessing' how much we had paid for our trips. Needless to say, our dinner guests that night weren't happy when they heard what we paid.

The kicker is it's not some possibly shotty and questionable travel agent site. You aren't booking what you think is a nice cruise on a well-known brand and you get a dinghy with an outboard (not that there's anything wrong with you dinghy-lovers out there).

Basically, you choose what cruise you want to go on (or you can browse on cruisecompete). Once you choose the cruise, the line and the date, the website does all the work and throws it out to a bunch of travel agents who then, get this, BID ON YOUR BUSINESS.

Evidently these agents see what the best offer is and undercut eachother and offer various freebies as well.

It may just be worth your while to investigate on here and then go back to your agent with whom you booked and tell them they're overcharging (if they in fact are).

I seriously don't mean to rain on your parade, I'm excited for you, I'm just offering up this one bit of advice so you can be sure you're getting the best deal.
