blackberries on VZW's network have to have a data plan. it's part of the contract VZW has with RIM. it's the reason you won't see a blackberry with wifi on VZW's network. i've been hearing rumors that the next gen curve and pearl might have it though.

Re: New Blackberry Storm

So what is Verizon's high speed network and how good is it? I'm on Sprint EVDO and for my market it's excellent. Also, I heard that the price on this would be ~$200 with a 2 yr contract... hardly and iPhone killer to start off with.

Here's a link to a powerpoint that shows the features and compares them current BlackBerry offerings: Linky

VZW's network is excellent. My phone NEVER drops calls. That is the only reason I stay with VZW As for this being the iPhone killer, I'd say this is as close anything else. And as much as I drink the Apple Kool-aid I may buy this over the iPhone

we are EVDO revision A all across our network which is much larger than what you have with sprint. with our pending alltel merger it will be pretty large.

BTW, if you contact me when the device comes out i'm sure that i could do a better deal on the device.

Thanks for the offer. I'm on the SERO plan with unlimited data/sms for $30/month so I doubt I'll move but might have a few BB addicted co-workers to send your way.

Is the Storm going to be on the regular VZ BB plans? Or are they creating a special one?

no new plans to my knowledge. Sero is a great plan but honestly i could never deal with sprint for their lack of service and customer service. cheap has it's trade offs.

it's more the opposite really. RIMM got no love from AT&T because of the Iphone and AT&T is really only pushing it. That's why VZW got the exclusive on this.

That's funny because while it seems that many people complain I've had zero problems, not with billing and neither with service. Never had to deal much with customer service other than to haggle over a new phone once the contract is up. Got a Mogul over a year ago ~$100 so what can I say...

Anyways, I can't wait to get my hands on the Storm. I've been a touchscreen user since the Treo 300 and keep wanting to touch the screen on my friends BB's. Is it true the Storm with be next to free in EU with Vodafone?

Quoting this article : The phone is available exclusively with Vodafone in Britain and will be free to customers who must sign up to a 18-month contract that costs £35 a month.

it hasn't launched on their network yet but it's possible. the UK is is completely different than the US. i don't believe you will see this phone free anywhere for a while. even existing customers with NE2 credits will still pay for this phone.

Voda also gives additional discounts depending on the plan. the more you spend the more discount you get so i wouldn't be suprised.
