Anyone ever done the crystal picture thing?

I lost my sister 31 years ago and most of the pictures of her are in bad shape. Yes I could have some of them restored and that is still an option but I found some sites that will take the picture and do a crystal engraving of it. I was thinking of doing this for my mother for Christmas.

Anyone done this? How did they turn out?

Yes, and the technology they use now gives really, really impressive results. Mine isn't of a portrait, but I've seen samples of portraits and they're amazing. Really cool product, and it seems to be a great, lasting option for your idea.

Good to know. There must have been a pretty major breakthrough around that time because even the pictures of me and various other things that were taken a few years later show very little age at all. The olan mills type pictures of her are aging badly though.

I saw these in Hawaii. They are very cool. Either way though, you could probably find a way to restore and preserve your existing pictures as well.

I've seen them at the Wal-mart photo center recently.

Yeah I will do both. I just thought this way it was definitely preserved for forever. I will probably do one for her and one for me.

I worked a start up on a company that did this.

I'm very sorry to hear the loss but i'd give them a try I was quite impressed with what they could do.
