Sherlock Holmes and the Saturday Silent League
A note:
This is made up by me and therefore, is highly amateurish and may not be perfect, as far as Arthur Conan Doyles writings. But, it is meant for fun and I am trying to do a good job. The story revolves around locating a suspect using the clue of a couple of cigars found near the crime scene. The Saturday Silent League Chapter One - A New Case for Sherlock The messenger had arrived earlier in the morning with a note from Sherlock demanding that I come over right away. My practice kept me busy until late afternoon before I was able to break away and get to Baker Street. Upon entering, I noticed the room was full of smoke from Sherlock's pipe and the syringe was still sitting on the table by his side. It has been a long time since a case of any merit had presented itself. Whenever a lot of time passed, Sherlock's mind would crave stimulation and out would come the hideous cocaine and the syringe. It was with great joy that I found him alert and in an excited mood. His legs were pulled up on the chair, as he did when he was thinking. "Watson," he said, " I think we have a good case finally." He passed a note across the table to me. Part of it had been torn away, but I was still able to read the main message. "Saturday Silent League to meet at McGinty's - 7 p.m. Don't let anyone see you come." "What do you think it means?" I asked. Sherlock was too deep in thought to even hear my question. "We will have move quickly, if we are to get to McGinty's before 7. Quick, Watson, call a carriage and make sure to bring your revolver." I felt my overcoat, but was already sure the revolver was in my side pocket. Whenever Sherlock required my presence, I knew trouble would be close at hand. Down the stairs I went to call the carriage. The night was dark already and there was a thick fog rolling in. "Driver!" I yelled, "hold steady till Sherlock gets here, we're in a great hurry to go." Sherlock came down full of energy and the look of concentration on his face. Off we sped to McGinty's, located on the other side of town. We needed to arrive well before seven so we could find a good hiding place where we could observe the meeting without being seen ourselves. The part of town where McGinty's could be found was not a place where a proper woman would venture out at night. Located near the wharf, it attracted sailors, roustabouts and a fair share of prostitutes. Sherlock knew that our carriage would be spotted right away. It was far too nice and would be out of place for this rough part of London. We departed from the carriage two blocks ahead of McGinty's and walked the rest of the way. The streets were mostly empty, since it was still during the evening meal time. As we got closer to McGinty's, the sound of a piano and the laughter of men broke thru the night. There was a fine mist still in the air. I was glad that my overcoat fit tightly around my neck. We located a doorway hidden from view, and checked our watches. We were now only a few minutes early. After a short time, our eyes adjusted to the darkness. We leaned our backs against the doorway for support, knowing it could be a long night ahead. Both of us noticed the dim glow of a cigarette in a storefront about a half a block down. By the mere sight of the portly stomach and the unique hat, we knew that it was our old detective friend, Lestrade. He used to be thinner and physically in shape, but his appointment to inspector meant more time at the desk and less on the street. Why he was here was a further mystery. Chapter Two - tomorrow. |
