I only recently signed up here and I don't really post here any more so I don't expect anyone to particularly care about my thoughts, but here goes.

The second I signed up, members were always talking about how these were the "friendliest" forums on the net to talk cigars and that this was the only place where people were really civil and respected one another.

Almost immediately, I found that to be far from true and threads like the beginning of this one exemplify why...there are a lot of folks who seem like they are just ready for a fight and have nothing better to do than argue on the internet. I quickly decided that while I might lurk from time to time on CS, another site was more to my liking.

Again, I don't expect anyone here to care as my postcount and the precious "ring gauge" that everyone seems to covet here are practically non-existent. Maybe, though, it will be food for thought for some.

Back to lurking mode...

Sorry that you have negative thoughts on some of the posts that come on here from time to time and for the most part just about every thread is non combative. Does that mean from time to time the brothers on here might take issue with something that somebody else said? Of course we will but I for one don't go to sleep at night thinking ill of anyone who may disagree with me or have a different opinion than mine. The character and itegrity of any person is how that person manages the slings or arrows of diversity that he comes in contact with. I'm sorry if you felt that the difference that Kayak and I had was something so awful that you feel the need to seek refuge with another site,,,,trust me as I don't think that was mine or Kayaks intent. He is free to voice his opinion on here or anywhere for that matter and the beautiful thing about being able to voice ones opinion is that others can either read it and move on or voice their own. I honestly could look you straight in the eye and tell you that I don't think any less of Kayak than I did 10 minutes before I read what he said after I posted. In fact, let's say this, we could probably meet at a B&M and now know each other from Adam and probably we'd hit it off and have a great time discussing things from cigars to waste management.

I think one of the best parts of this forum has been, at least since I became a member, that people can voice differences of opinion and although sometimes the posts become personal, we all recognize that we each have our opinions yet share the same passion, good cigars and good company which this place is filled with both. One of the many things I admire about CS is that you can have a thread that gets somewhat deemed "heated" and the next day, the same individuals are talking about their previous hauls on C-bid or a B & M and asking each other questions with real interest and mutual respect for one anothers input and commentary. It is a good place here. Name other places where thousands communicate with only the written word, not face to face or with personality and seldom have "blowouts". There is an forumwide friendship here that can overcome these occasional disagreements in a gentlemanly manner. This thread is not solely indicative of the integrity of the BOTLS/SOTL's HERE, but then again notice how the "fight" here ended as quickly as it started.

Well, I've been debating whether or not to respond to all that's gone on in here, all of which surprised me greatly. I was just looking for a reason why some fellers don't put their location in their info and I chose to have a little fun with my post by making it into a little fun-to-read (hopefully!) story. I guess it doesn't really matter about peeps' locations but I'm a curious kind of guy so I like to know a teeny bit about where the fella's coming from.

Of course, I'm certainly aware that certain prejudices enter an otherwise (mostly) uncloudied picture the second you give away your general location. I'm sure you folks all picture me as some slick kid from L.A. who hobnobs with Lindsay Lohan one day, Paris Hilton the next, fights off the paparazzi everywhere he goes and who has tremendously large silicone breasts and a too far stretched out face.

While most of the above is true, if I actually had silicone b00bs, I'd never be able to type this message.

Anyhoo....I'll try to be brief because I definitely don't intend to start anew or continue up any fight whatsoever. But I did want to make mention how very much I appreciate Gary & Scott sticking up for me when Kayak_Rat made it very clear from the opening of his comment that:

I'm just gonna be brief because I can understand your issue and I think my friends here have addressed your concerns but I wanted to put in my thoughts as well mrfunkalicious because I also don't want you to think this isn't the great place that I know it is.

First at bat:

Whoa buddy, I wasn't lookin' for a.....oh oh, you mean the other guy, sorry.

There are TONS of fellas & gals on here from all different walks of life. Just as I drive down the road (remember, we have freeway shootings), I remind myself that this bastard who cut me off (oh, I'm not actually driving right now) may have had something terrible happen to him and therefore is driving like a maniac. Telling myself this doesn't always work and I too get upset. But we have to try to relax on here just like I 'try' on the road. And for the record, I'm an aggressive driver (but I'm not the guy who cut you off the other day).

Where I'm getting at is that you don't know what Kayak's story is, neither do I. He could be having a sh!tty day and yeah, it doesn't make it right to go out on the forums and flex your muscles but hey, I let it slide right off my back.

I think this site offers tremendous value as it sounds you've found from time to time. There will always be a bully (I'm not saying that Kayak is a bully, he just may have been in an off mood because I've seen some of his posts and he's been around a long time so I can respect him even though he wasn't the nicest to me in our first meeting here).

So there will always be that bully you might see looking for a fight but I do think we should always try to make the best of it, relax, and make damned sure to do our best to make this the best cigar site on the internet and not let one person (or even a handful) ruin our experience.

I suggest we all browse, learn & give back to the system that offers us a tremendous amount of value in the information at just a click away, the companions we meet, the memories we share and the great cigars & such with which we bomb each other silly.

Oh oh.....and the RG...who cares about RG! I honestly don't give RG much thought but certainly appreciate those who find my posts helpful and want to show me gratitude in the form of RG. I ask anyone who has a problem with me, to feel free to ding away....although I personally don't think ANYONE should be dinging ANYBODY for ANY reason.

I say be positive, give RG if you think the person deserves it. But don't be negative and ding someone, that's just stupid.

I really don't think Zack needs to apologize for his point of view. It's his point of view to express. In reality all he did was point out a 'post' was obnoxious. I would think the parties involved could agree to disagree and move on at this point.
