Question Occupation

I just got a letter from a college that i'm going too and was wondering what i want to do for a career. Since most of you are old (hehe suckers! ) I was wondering what all of you do for an occupation, other than LLG of course. I myself have no clue what i want to do, but i was working (i work in a Drug Emporium a drug store) and it was sucking pretty bad, because all people do is bitch about how expensive valentines day cards are, and i was thinking "You know i think i'm goign to be rich" LOL I know that i want to be pretty successful and have plenty of money for those ISOM's among other things. And i'm going to college and my parents say rent and food is free if i'm going to school, so i can focus my attention on school get a good degree get a good job, a nice house, wife, kids, and lots of cigars, and maybe a dog. ...In a nutshell... so yeah what does everyone do

you'll never be rich doing it, but a career in the fire service has its perks.

I'm joining the Air Force. There are tons of different careers to choose from, and when I'm 42, and have my 20 years in, I can retire and be making at least $45,000 a year for the rest of my life. Not a bad deal.

If you haven't already, do read Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Kiyosaki. It is a must read now that you are considering college and careers.

Ryan

If you don't learn at least one thing that you didn't already know, I'll return the purchase price of the book.

It is a classic read.

Ryan,

One thing I learned in college but didn't take to heart at the time and learned again later in life. The amount of money you make is second to happiness. If you can make great money doing something you love you are indeed lucky but it is out there.

I was working as an oilfield engineer right out of engineering school and making damn good money at it. The work was incredibly challenging, stressful and downright dangerous at times for such a young guy. I learned a lot and was relativly happy. I met my soon to be wife and we were hardly together as I worked 60 - 80 hours a week and was away from town 3-4 days at a time. Things changed as I was no longer happy in my job. I took a pay cut and moved. Then the wife was not happy in the new location (Northern Illinois) so we moved again back to Oklahoma. Now we are both very happy and are more financially stable than ever before but I'm not in the capacity of an electrical engineer.

My advice: Pick a major that you think you will enjoy that appears to have a bright future and stick with it. The average guy will change jobs several times in his career so just follow your nose once you get that degree. You are gonna be just fine.

Take care and enjoy your school...I sure miss those days.

I am working a co-op and working on a 2nd undergrad. My first degree was in Biology. I started out on the pre-med track at later found out that it wasn't for me. Instead of switching over to something else, I decided on the pre-vet track in an attempt to salvage the degree. After applying and wasting money for 2 years, I decided to move on. I came to the conclusion that I needed to do something that would provide me with a decent income and allow me to support my hobbies. Now I'm at Georgia Tech as an M.E. I should be done with school no later than the age of 35

I work in Sports Marketing but it ain't ever gonna earn me a fortune but it is work I have always enjoyed so I'm gonna stick with it.

My one piece of advice I would always give is that whatever profession you choose to work in, always try and get 3-4 years experience with the biggest company in that profession or alternatively, a vocational qualification (e.g. law qualifications).

My 2nd job was with the world's biggest public relations company where I stayed for 3 years and ever since I left, recruitment companies always make reference to the time I spent there. I left the company over 4 years ago but it was certainly time well spent.

Even if the job is hell, get the experience under your belt and you will never go wrong.

First decide what you enjoy doing.

THEN... figure out to make decent/good/lots of money at it.

I work on the phones doing Customer Service. I hate it so much! I'm sick of desk jobs. I want to work with people directly! Love that smiley!

I build custom mountain, road, and freestyle bikes. Ill never make much money at it, but i LOVE the work. Plus its a good job while im going to school, which i switched from pre-med to teachin, and so far im having a ball! You can try to make all the plans you want before school, but once you get there your exposed to soo many different areas of learning, that ill bet you change you mind at least twice
