The Olympics... Just venting...

Okay... Please let me vent here...

I've been listening to one of those "call-in" stations as I've worked over the past couples of days, and when the topic was the Olympics, I was not only appalled, but shamed by some of the lame-brained call-ins!!...

"If you ask me, those male figure-skaters are all gay, and it's not a sport!"

I would ask that caller to strap on his skates, and show us how it's done!

"Snow-boarding isn't a sport... It's a passtime for toast-heads!"

I would suggest that you try it!

"Girls playing hockey!? What the hell is this!!??"

Strap your skates on, big boy, and give it a go!

"These are all foreign sports... Not 'our' Sports!!!"

Then switch channels!

Not sure to end this, except to say that I'm damned proud of our Olympians, and damned glad that there's still an international showplace for the the talents and efforts of individuals... Don't care WHERE they're from!

OK, I might be a little in the camp of the idiot concerning men's figure skating (except that it is a sport and a very gay sport) but other than that....

I've hear the same things. And don't forget, "I've never even heard of these people." Who cares, it sure beats the Pro Bowl, NBA, Poker, bowling, and any other sports on TV this time of year.

I love the olympics. For 2 weeks every 4 years I have to follow a 'fringe' sport. I am in.
No one is asking me to watch Curling next May, so for 30 mins tonight I will watch it.

I watched both USA and Canada play over the weekend and thought "I wonder if I could play defense against these girls?".

I've got a lot of respect for the womens teams. The skill level is high, for the most part don't play the physical game but they pass and make plays very well.

I don't listen to sports radio for anything other than football, basketball and baseball. I don't mean to offend anyone but when it comes to any other sport, the typical sports radio listener is ignorant.

Years ago when World Cup was in LA, the local sports radio guys said that no one cared about soccer and that it was a foreigners game and no one would be going to the games. I seem to remember the Rose Bowl being sold out for most games Must have been all the "foreigners".
