Every time from here to eternity, any time I hear the word "quail" I think of the scene on Wedding Crashers!

Re: Any Quail hunters out their?

I thought this was going to be a joke about cheney (if people didn't see on the news he accidently shot a friend while quail hunting...follow this link http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,184617,00.html ) I feel bad for him because what was probably just an accident that ended without severe injury will be all over the news and comedians and such.

Re: Any Quail hunters out their?

I love to, but the small game birds are becoming scarce in my neck of the woods. I would be more than happy to help anyone who has an over population though.

Re: Any Quail hunters out their?

One of the few things I miss living in Florida is bird hunting behind a good dog.

One of the most important rules of Hunter safety: Be sure of the target before you pull the trigger. Now the poor old fella he carelessly shot is in serious condition from his injuries. I can't believe how poorly the White house handled this. They just handed the anti-gun zealot's a Golden Egg on a silver platter with this one.

Hmm not so sure on that one. Denial holds up better under scruntity than presumption. He could have had a drink or two in him that needed to be processed out of his system. And as far as the anti-gun crowd is concerned, well it shouldn't bother a conservative on bit to see them rise up with indignity. It'll help the repubs at the polls in November. Nothing will tear up the democrat base faster than a strong anti-gun platform.

Re: Any Quail hunters out their?

Back on thread; Yes, I have quail hunted. Probably only 300-400 times, though, so maybe I'm still a rookie! Fewer quail hunters in my area than when I started hunting quail over 35 years ago. Which equates to more quail! However, over last decade, movement of coyotes into Alabama has had a negative impact on quail population.

Haven't hunted quail in last 7 or 8 years since my bird dog (lemon spot pointer) passed away. At time of dog's death, too many things going on in my life, and children at age where I needed to spend time with them, so I have not had an oppurtunity to buy and train another bird dog.

A major downside to the loss of my dog, and the resulting lack of quail hunting: I no longer walk 15 to 20 miles every other weekend, over hills and through briars, which equates to about 40 lbs slowly added over 8 years. Easy to keep the weight off with the activity level required to hunt quail in my area (few nice, level, clean corn fields around here)!!

Nothing like a good bird dog. Sorry you havent been able to get out there. What a downer post.

For the record, my family has had the same 1,000 or so Acre's for the past 150 years in Eastern Oklahoma. My grandfather and uncle still raise cattle on it. It is perfect for Quail hunting. I grew up spending many days out in the pastures shooting Quails, and missing a few too. This whole Cheney episode reminded me what I have been missing out on for the last few years.

Sounds like we need to find a good dog, grab a handful of good stogies, and head to Oklahoma!!

I'll be careful where I swing my gun if you will!!
