Now I can stay off for several days and still not have a full ten pages of posts. Today in fact I only had 4 and the forth only had 1 thread on it. Weird? Any thoughts?

I look for quality, not quantity. I do seem to still find that here.

This certainly discourages people from posting.
I disagree with this statement. The mod team is doing a fantastic job and as a result the quality of posts are actually up even while quantity of banter is down.

I agree the mod team is doing a good job under difficult circumstances.
However, I disagree with the frequency of closing threads. Closing a thread should be a last resort to prevent problems. Otherwise, they should be left open. Just my philosophy and perspective.

We'll just have to agree to disagree.

Circumstances are no longer difficult. I know some would like to believe they still are... I believe things are on the right track now. Negativity still persists from certain members but we are heading in the right direction.

Threads are closed when the mod team deems it absolutely necessary and they are doing a FANTASTIC job - and they are looking out for the best interests of our community.

I for one would like to thank them for their dedication.

Am I considered one of the "certain members" or just being overlooked?

No big deal… but since we are having a discussion on the issues of functionality.

I acknowledged up front that it was not a high priority and frankly I was merely trying to help out and keep the thread "legit" as it spiraled into the amusingly banal. I even went to the trouble to make a screen shot, host the image and post it like a grown-up

The trivial point is that my legitimate effort to support this/our community could have simply been addressed before closing the thread, hence I used the word "overlooked" which is different than being ignored. No matter I can deal with either with a smile.

Always appreciate you keeping the best interests of CS in check, Richard.

"Overlooked" was probably the best answer, as we were dealing with a situation that warranted our attention (note the post deleletion) at the time of the closing.

Rest assured that at least one Mod, , will readdress your original question to Jon (if need be), when the time comes!

I look for quality in quantity but so far as the Op, I agree that posting is way down. A few months ago I could look through 3/4 - a full page of active threads in the GD forum daily and usually find three or four that were of interest. Now it seems there are only three or four total active threads here daily. At least its more peaceful now. This isn't negativity just an observation. I'm sure things will get more active in time.

Absolutely. Quantity is down - but I believe quality of posts are increasing on a daily basis and new members continue to sign up and become active which is one thing we are all thankful for. And things are a lot more peaceful now no doubt about that.

Thanks for the positive thoughts.

Re: Posts

I am glad to see the new members as well. I've noticed in the Pipe Forums, for example, that some are experienced and some are new to pipe smoking.

They're participating in good conversation and helping each other with questions, as well as trading tobaccos. Overall, getting to know one another and forming friendships...it's a good sign!

Re: Posts

I would agree, before the sale I would log on for the first time at night and there would be 10 full pages of posts, maybe more. I would go through all 10 pages and open 5-6 threads (maybe 10) to look for something interesting.

A few weeks after the sale, it was down to 2-3 pages.

Recently, it has been up to 6-7 pages and I find myself opening 20-30 threads (not including mod related topics).

I think we are moving in the right direction.

Community is reconstituting as they always do when there is a change. The issue is there is a finite life span of the current state. Not what it was, not what it will be kind of thing. Coming soon.. Puff.com. Only one really knows for sure what it will be like. Everyone else gets to decide on their own what they think.

RE the traffic... Statistics are what they are.

Oh now you didnt just quote Alexa did you?!

http://www.google.com/search?rlz=1C1...s+not+accurate

Stats are what they are. Google analytics is a far better judge of traffic and traffic is stable and new users continue to sign up

But thanks for the chuckle
