Pen Collecting

In addition to cigars, I am very interested in collecting Pens/Writing instruments. In my job I spend a good deal of time in meetings or writing briefs and I prefer to use a nice pen over some cheap bick I picked up at a hotel or drug store. I was wondering inf any other BOTL also shared this hobby.

I like Montblanc. I have three, one ballpoint and two rollerballs, including the new platinum edition rollerball.

I also collect fountain pens. I like Waterman fountains as I find they write better and don't leak. This is an area I feel Montblanc does a bad job in. Almost all the Montblanc fountains I have used leak.

Let me know what you like, or any rarieties you have.

Re: Pen Collecting

I collect the MB Writer's Editions... have 3 full sets currently plus a Jules Verne BP that is my daily writing instrument... love em an agree w/ you that the feel is so much better than a Bic... again, everyone has their hobbies! Some folks can care less about what pen they use or what cigar they smoke... I, however, have an opinion ;-) .... (esp. on my toys! lmao)

Re: Pen Collecting

I collect Civil War books, still trying to find really old ones, also relics from the battles but I mostly have only bullets and one button because everything else is so damn expensive, and I also enjoy collecting baseball autographs.

Re: Pen Collecting

If there is one thing I can never seem to find, it's the pen I just used a few minutes ago. I have eyed Mont Blancs for many years now and have never laid down the cash for one. I just can't seem to spend the money on something that I'll surely lose.

I feel you on this one TypeO, I can never hold onto a pen for more than a day or two, before its lost in the chaos that is my house.

That the thing though. When you spend the money for a fine pen, you find it so much easier to keep track of. Have had mine for years, never lost once. Have broken one several times, but MB customer service is fantastic. They always fix it for the cost of shipping it back to the plant.

I hear you. Have several friends who can't believe I'd pay over $100 for a pen, but you like what you like. They make days at the office more bearable.

Re: Pen Collecting

Being left handed, I find fountain pens and most 'wet' rollerballs (as the one MB RB pen I've owned was), well, detrimental to my writing efforts. Although I sure would love to be able to write with them, I know they're damn nice pens. I just smudge the writing and get ink all over my hand.

Yeah, it does make one pay attention to where you carry it around and who you "loan" it to to write with... maybe this makes me a tad overly-aware, but hey, these pens are not cheap and ya gotta keep track of them...

Re: Pen Collecting

I loose a pen a day.

If I collected pens I would have none. The only pens that I collect are the 99 cent bic ones. I dont loose those. I have lost 4 Mont Blancs over the years. Now I just keep one at my offie and one at my home. Nice and safe.

Re: Pen Collecting

I've got a Montblanc Meisterstruck LeGrand Fountain (bought it in Paris on my honeymoon), a smaller MB fountain, a couple of rollerballs, a Waterman Fountain, and a few others.

I have terrible handwriting but really love the way a fine pen feels in my hand

Re: Pen Collecting

I love pens, have one Montblanc, and admire all fine writing instruments. Unfortunately my cigars and knives get most of my consideration when it comes to spending big $$$-maybe some day I'll take the plunge into collectible pens!!

If you collect knives, you need to make it down to Atlanta for the Blade show. It's the largest knife show in America. I go every year.
