Business Cards & Cases

I'm curious of whether my fellow cigar smokers have business cards and business card cases? Do you use it often or is it just in your desk collecting dust? Does your field of employment use it often or it's something that is rarely used?

Personally, I have business cards and have a business card case somewhere of which I am fairly certain I lost. I'll be going by the mall or musuem to check some out. If any of you have seen American Pyscho, there's a business card scene, and one of them has a sideways opening card case; that's my dream case!!! Currently, I work in the private accounting sector so I don't work with clients much anymore, and I mainly use them now for hiring purposes.

Oh yes, an interesting note. If you go to Asia, especially Japan, there's a whole culture for business cards. It's highly coveted and a must. While I don't frequent the orient much (never been to Japan much), it seems some cultures are very focused on these little cards.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I have business cards but havent splurged on a card case. I work in civil engineering, so every job requires passing around of cards. I think Dunhill makes some slick card holders, but they are $$$.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I hand out 4-5 business cards a week. I carry a few backups in my wallet, a bunch in my computer bag, more in a cheap plastic case that comes with the cards when you order them, and still more in a handmade wood case that usually gets left in a shirt pocket or jacket I'm not wearing. Seems like I never have one handy for impromtu meetings except the ones that have folded/bent corners in my wallet.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I always have business cards on me, and in a metal case I carry in my right back pocket. Even though I don't hand them out often, it is much better to have them and not need them, than to need them and not have them. Plus, pulling them out of a case is much better than pulling them out of your wallet. the metal case keeps them crisp, and the corners sharp, without the leather discoloration from a wallet, and bending of the corners from an overstuffed walllet.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I give out 3-4 cards a day. I just went to Target and bought a leather case that acutally fits in the middle of my bi-fold wallet. Makes my wallet kind of thick, but it keeps my cards looking clean and crisp.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I have a tendancy to just throw some cards in my money clip with the other junk (cash, credit cards and receipts.) I has a nice flip up metal case at one point but lost it.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

For me it's dependent upon the job. Not all engineers interface with customers and suppliers regularly. I frequently handed out business cards at my last job but have yet to even get them ordered for my current job.

As far as etiquitte is concerned a clean, crisp looking card is a must. With international customers and suppliers I will also take a few seconds to glance over the other person's card. More or less long enough to get the name properly and show some appreciation.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I have business cards and a leather card case. The case flips open and I have my cards on one side and slide cards I'm given in the other until I get home and can place them in my card file.

I carry the card case in my back pocket with my cigar cutter which is also in a leather case.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I have cards but no case, I keep them in my "padfolio" thing or tucked in my laptop bag.

I went to a convention and there were several Japanese businessmen there. A few approached me, speaking no English, and offered a business card to me - then made a hand motion letting me know that they wanted one of mine. They seemed very excited (and appreciative) to get my card!

Re: Business Cards & Cases

When I was working my company paid for all of my business cards,,,,1000 per year was my limit. I would travel extensively around the country and I would hand them out to those people I would meet regardless if it was a contact or someone that I just met at a B&M. It was a tool for me and after awhile as the technology got going I would just beam my "business card" to those who had their handhelds but for me, doing the card seemed much more personal. I did have one of the nicer holders that I got a couple of years before I retired and it kept the cards in a convenient place. I say, regardless whether you use it for business or just want to give them to people you think you will associate with in the future, hand em out and put em in something nice.

Re: Business Cards & Cases

I have business cards. Technically, I have a business card case. But, I just call that my wallet.
