Wow.

Ben Avery is a good range. I've sighted rifles in there before. I had no idea there were guys doing that, though. Now I want to try it, thanks RM"

Re: Well new toy, cigars on hold

The Varget loads were chrono-ing at a little over 2700fps. Theoretically I should have needed about 35.5MOA ele from the 100 yd zero, but I ended up using only 32.75MOA. Still had plenty of up ele left with the ST-10, (RSO suggested 38MOA... I was shooting 50+ inches high with his call!). USO has some really nice stock, semi-custom and fully custom scopes... at fully custom prices of course.

Whatever you end up with, get an adjustable objective to compensate for parallax. The first scope I had on the VS was Leupold VXIII, with a fixed objective. If I moved my head from the bottom of the visual field to the top, the reticle would displace by over 4" @100yds. The AO relieves you of this potential disaster.

About my loads... Gotta admit... my money load is 42.0 gr IMR 4895. 10 shot 100yd groups in the .4s all day long. Just won't get out to 1000. Varget seems to work really well in .308 rifles... frighteningly well, in fact. And oddly enough, there seems to be a range of loads that works equally well for each rifle. Dan Newberry re-thought up the Optimal Charge Weight for quite a few calibers, incl .308. I would STRONGLY suggest your using his method to develop a load suitable for your stick.

PM me if you wanna know about case prep. I tend to go overboard for a factory rifle. And PMs, as some of us can attest.

Some gun ****...

Remington 700 VS, with all the trimmings. Note the "custom" cheek pad!

And a recent heartbreak:

Anschutz 1813 Super Match. Gone but not forgotten.

Great news on the rifle. Cigars can wait. Just let us know if you start running low on sticks.

Nice facility Shawn, looks to be full service.

This
is the club i belong to. We just upgraded the indoor range, sound proofing and new ventilation system. That's where i spend my winters with my Anschutz Match 54.

Why not build a FN-FAL? I just finished building one to go along with the AR-15.
Going to take it out to the range and sight it in soon.

Yeah... went to a great new home, though. Sometimes a mans gotta take a hit for the family. Starting to think about an air rifle for 10m later in the year, Insh'Allah. It'll let me shoot in the house if I can't make it to the range...which is pretty likely if I keep working the hours I am now.

Shawn, I gotta tell ya... 1k ain't hard to shoot. Just have to have consistant rifle, an MV of >2700fps with the 175gr, (although I've seen it done well with 168gr), your technique down well enough to shoot good groups and a decent wind strategy.

And some schmuck down range plotting your target!

Given anymore thought to your glass?

Yeah some, I don't have a huge amount of cash to get this going so I am going with the Super Sniper 10X42 I believe. If I go with this scope the whole rifle setup should run me about $1200.

LMAO that's less then your scope

Down the road I can upgrade

Re: Well new toy, cigars on hold

The SS oughtta do the trick. Mixed reviews when it was intro'd, but nothing that really detracted from it. 10X is fine for what you want to do.

While you're waiting, you can get some practice time in, compliments of Shooter Ready. A nice little mil dot sim for you to play with. PM sent about new scopes.

Bases... have you thought about your bases? Several have additional MOA built into them, (like the Badger Ordnance I have). Might not be necessary, but I like the additional insurance. Worth considering.

We need a gun forum here. Yeah, there are tons of them out there -- just would be nice to hang with the the crowd here at CS. I nominate Scott"shoottheeyesoffaflyat100yards"M to be the mod.
