going to Austin, TX for the first time ever...2/06

Hey guys & gals, I'm going to be in Austin the weekend of 2/06. I'll be going with a colleague for a business event that weekend but might have some free time to do some exploring. I might even have an hour or two for a cigar!

Since I've never been to Austin, I'd love to check out the 'must see's' of the town I've heard so much about. On the Real World, you know. And from stories I've heard from SXSW. And well, that's about all I know about Austin.

So what should I check out?? Sights, eats, good bars, cigar joints....any herfs planned in case I have some time to join up?

I'll be staying downtown.

Thanks!!!!

Bobalu Cigar Co. on 6th is a definate. Sunflower Cafe has some good eats. Waterloo Records is a landmark to visit as well. Pretty much, everyones super nice in Austin, so explore 6th and ask the locals on recommendations, they'll point you in the right direction. Loved living in Austin, can't wait to move back.

You have to try the BBQ Chicken stuffed Jalepenos at Bone Daddy's House of Smoke. The waitstaff is hot.

6th Street in Downtown Austin has a bar for everyone. I always start at The Chuggin Monkey when I'm in town.

If I have a an hour or two to kill I stop by this place.

Bobalu was nifty, thanks for the recommendation! I dropped in to check it out and picked up one of their fresh-rolled house-brand Robusto's. I couldn't stop smelling the wrapper...thing was sweet & delicious. For a fresh-rolled cigar, the thing burned surprisingly well and was pretty darn good. I smoked it at the terrace on the mezzanine of the Driskill Hotel, where I was staying.

Dabnabit, we were going to go to Sugars or Yellow Rose but never had the time. But everywhere we went, the waitstaff was always hot...Austin is unreal. I knew Texas was known for its amazing (and friendly) women but DAAAYUM.

6th Street was great although I didn't get the chance to party there, even though my hotel was right on the strip. We ended up having a great dinner on Friday at Ranch 616 and ended up at Little Woodrow's just down the street. Both were great places.

Saturday we did a Paintball tourney out in Jonestown which was a blast and I grabbed some Ironworks BBQ for lunch (AWESOME!) and then we had dinner at Sullivan's and partied nearby in the Warehouse District.

I DEFINITELY want to go back and spend more time checking out the music scene. What a great town! Thanks again fellas for all your suggestions. If I had more time, I would have done a lot more. Now I have a reason to go back!

Glad to hear you had a great time.

I keep getting invitations from friends for events in Austin and damn it, I can't make the drive in under 13 hours.
