Mothers Day - Whatcha Doin?

What are you guys doing for Mother's Day?

1. Sent mom flowers and a card.

2. Took Laura's son shopping to get stuff for his mom.

3. I got Laura a small Coach pocketbook, a dozen pink roses, and four sets of crotchless pantyhose. (She asked for those.)

4. Dinner and a wine tasting tonight.

5. I just now made Quiche Lorraine for breakfast Sunday. We will also have a fruit platter and honey bisquits. Champagne and OJ.

6. We are having a bbq / pool party with about a dozen friends coming over in the afternoon.

We like to party!

Btw, moms with boys like this definitely deserve to be honored on Mother's Day.

Last year, I ordered her some nice flowers. Turns out, of four kids, I was the only one to get her anything. I got to gloat that I was the favorite all year. This year I sent her some flowers and a box of her favorite chocolate (Godiva). The card read: "Ma! Here's a little something to ensure that i'm still the favorite. Happy Mothers Day."

It's good to be the favorite.

I called Alaska and made reservations for seven at the nicest restaurant in town. Mom, Aunt Ann and her new husband, sister Tracy and husband and three kids. $200. gift cert. for dinner. Also called the florist and had three bouquets made for delivery to the table. One for each of the moms.

Took Mum's to dinner Wednesday as I had to work yesterday. Daughter is home before leaving for Israel on Thursday, so that makes wifey happy enough.

Above the Clouds
Bed and Breakfast
Glen Ellen, California
Specialty Recipe
Quiche Lorraine

Pre-baked pastry shell for 9-inch pie
(takes about 9 minutes and can be done ahead)
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees F
Ingredients
1 pound leanest bacon (cooked to crumble stage without burning)
1/4 to 1/2 pound Swiss cheese (depends on how cheesy you like your food)
Filling:
2 cups heavy cream
4 whole eggs
1 clove of garlic crushed
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of white pepper
1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 to 1 teaspoon of salt (to taste)
1/4 cup finely chopped onion
parsley (to sprinkle on top of liquid mix)
Mix eggs and spices together well (but do not beat), add cream and mix again. Spread bacon evenly in pastry shell, layer cheese over bacon and press down. Pour liquid mix over cheese to fill shell. Sprinkle parsley on top of liquid mix.
Bake for 15 minutes at 400 degrees then reduce temperature to 325 degrees and continue baking for 20 to 25 minutes until golden or a knife inserted comes out clean or with just the cheese clinging.
Everything can be prepared a day or two before and refrigerated, then assembled at the last minute just before cooking.
