Nothing like jumping into the fire feet first!

I recommend you start off a bit slow at first, especially if you've been "out" for awhile. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself or set yourself up for over-training/fatigue.

Cycleman,

I wish you all the luck in the world, but sounds like you are taking on an awful lot for one month. By the sound of it, in April you will drink twice as much, smoke twice as much, gain 10 lbs, and make a solemn oath never to walk into a gym again. Not that you can't accomplish what you want to accomplish, but there are no positives involved; you have no system set up to reward yourself for doing well. Take small steps and program your brain a little bit at a time. It (your brain) will offer far less resistance and will wire itself towards motivation in exchange for pleasure.

Let's take cigars as the pleasure since you can legally drive with one in the car or after smoking a few, and they contain no calories. Get out and join the gym; make it a goal to work out three times a week. Every day that you go to the gym, you may reward yourself with a cigar that night. Don't sweat the diet too much at this time; right now, the goal is to get your brain to motivate the rest of your body to go work out for the cigar enjoyment later that evening (or whenever.) Say you plan to work out Mon, Wed, and Fri; this leaves Sat and Sun open. You must anticipate a reward of some kind, so each week that you go with no alcohol, you can smoke your favorite cigar on Sunday and you may have one drink with your cigar. Once you get used to not drinking during the week, you may choose to smoke a cigar on Saturday night in exchange for the drink with the cigar on Sunday.

The lack of positive reinforcement is the reason most people burn out and then binge on what they denied themselves.

This is only a suggestion of course. It is much easier to manipulate the brain than to just flat out deprive it.

Well, it's the first day and I know I am dropping the no-cigar goal.

- I have photo shoots this month and I WILL have to light and smoke the cigars for these girls.

- Mr Whitefish is coming to town next weekend and I'll be damned if I'm not smoking with this fine brother....

- I think I don't wanta give up so damn much in one month. The booze will be hard enough.

- I'm weak.... to the leaf.....

Those are all very good reasons .
A man's gotta do, what a man's gotta do!
So I say keep enjoying the smokes .

I was worried about that, in AA, they tell you not to quit smoking till you have been sober for a year.

I know that was not the case here, just their guidelines.

I'm not going to wish you luck, I know you can do, whatever you set your mind to.

BTW, luck is the connatation of the word, lucifer !

Best wishes !!!!!!!

Tom
