Sad Day in South Park, No More Chef

Isaac Hayes is leaving South Park. The show more or less gave him a career for the last decade as well as noteriety to a new generation. And it looks like the Scientologists are behind it:

Quote:
NEW YORK (AP) - Isaac Hayes has quit "South Park," where he voices Chef, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

Hayes, who has played the ladies' man/school cook in the animated Comedy Central satire since 1997, said in a statement Monday that he feels a line has been crossed.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said.

"Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored," he continued. "As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

"South Park" co-creator Matt Stone responded sharply in an interview with The Associated Press Monday, saying, "This is 100 percent having to do with his faith of Scientology... He has no problem - and he's cashed plenty of checks - with our show making fun of Christians."

Last November, "South Park" targeted the Church of Scientology and its celebrity followers, including actors Tom Cruise and John Travolta, in a top-rated episode called "Trapped in the Closet." In the episode, Stan, one of the show's four mischievous fourth graders, is hailed as a reluctant savior by Scientology leaders, while a cartoon Cruise locks himself in a closet and won't come out.

Stone told The AP he and co-creator Trey Parker "never heard a peep out of Isaac in any way until we did Scientology. He wants a different standard for religions other than his own, and to me, that is where intolerance and bigotry begin."
Well, who can replace him? Luther Vandross, Barry White and most of those other black guys who make humping music are dead now. Maybe Aaron Nevelle can do it.

Man hate to hear he is leaving. But it is his choice to do what he wants.

Mwahahahaha.... Hey... he doesn't have to be black.... I recall the first time I saw Michael Bolton I got a wicked shocker. He was white! I thought for years that that rhaspy voice was black.

It does suck that he is leaving, but I agree with what Matt Stone said 100%. South Park makes fun of everything. I am a Christian but still found the episodes where Christianity was made fun of....well funny.

I say get over it....but I also agree it is his choice. He did cash all those checks though, I wonder how much of it the church of scientology receved??

R Kelly was in the closet with Tom and John. I guess it would have been funny now if they had used Isaac to try and get them out the closet.

Bunch of BS, leaving for that reason though. Isaac even talked on Opie and Anthony about that episode, seemed cool with it at that time. I would guess someone from higher up the ladder in L Ron land sat on him about it.

Gotta think for yourself, Isaac!!!

This would be the GREATEST justice of all!!!!!

Hell, have Kenny do something that causes it.

I can only hope Trey and Matt do this with their own brand of justice.

Maybe choke on one of his own "Chocolate Salty Balls"
