Well I did it - Ordered a New Laptop tonight

My current laptop is 6 years old and I use it daily for my side job...lotsa data...I really needed to get updated. I ordered a Dell Inspiron 1525 with the Intel Core 2 Duo Processor. 3 Gig mem...250 gig HD and Next Gen Wireless N. Major expenditure for me. I need a drink.

He'll be good to go with 3gb I'm betting. I've actually been considering converting my laptop to Vista to play around with it & learn it. It was built for it, but I bought it right before Vista released so I got XP with it. From the folks I've talked to, a lot of the driver issues with Vista are gone now and SP1 fixed a lot of the Vista-based issues. Good luck with the new laptop Mike!

Enjoy the new laptop Mike!

It's always nice to get a brand new machine.

I have 2 XP's and one Vista as my main computer that is 8 months old.

I don't think you can get a non-Vista machine anymore, can you?

Mostly I think Vista has some real cool features and usually when people talk about it, you only hear the bad stuff.

However, I must say that there are some annoying bugs too. Media Center has been a fiasco and I had to jump through major hoops to get the latest edition of Quicktime to work, like making scary, dangerous manual edits to system files.

As far as Dell is concerned...you can still get XP on the business oriented machines like the Latitude and the New Vostro.

I decided to get Vista, because I do this stuff for a living and will eventually need to support Vista....so I better get used to the quirks.

Vista is not to much different, and it seems to be faster then XP. Just make sure any apps you install will run on it.

I have ran Vista for at least a year, so if you have any questions just ask.

I'm in IT and while there are some features I love in Vista, my new laptop, a HP 6910p came with it, I quickly blew it out and put a fresh XP install on it. Even with 4 GB of memory (which Vista could only see about 3.5) It ran like a dog with all the apps I run (Outlook, Excel, Smartcode VNC Enterprise, Blackberry Desktop, a custom console for AD, DNS, DHCP and 1 or 2 web browsers).

Just give me a machine with 95 and I will smoke all your asses.
That's just me though. Vista sucks. At least in my environment.
My two cents.

Let me tell you Mike. I can out smoke anyone with 95 running.

I have Gateway M-460. M-465's and 475-P = it sucks running XP.

I have Dell GX-150's, 240's and 270's, all running 2000. They all suck.

If you let me load 95 on any of them Dell's they will out run anything you can throw at me.

Try it if you like it. The facts are the facts. It is what it is.

By the way. I never smoked crack. I sure have visited the crack alot though.

IMO, 98 SE ran 10X better than 95.

ME was garbage

2000 was a hog

XP was a mess till SP1 and nowadays is pretty damn solid, but still a resouce hog.

Vista makes XP look like it has an eating disorder.

For me, XP is the best option as long as your PC isn't 10 years old. There are several services you can disable that free up tons of memory, so if you know what you are doing you can really streamline it.

The facts are that you are using a 13 year old obsolete OS that is incapable of utilizing the technologies required of a modern business desktop.

Whatever Mike. The fact is I am supporting 2500 workstations and I know 95, 97 or 98 would work much better.

What do you have. One or two at your house.

A CS is always a CS and I guess you are it for me.
