rough time for my friend

Went to work yesterday morning and a guy who was supposed to ride the vanpool in didn't show up. Tried to call him, but no answer. Didn't think too much about it at the time, figured he had the day off. On the way home we found out that a tornado had touched down in our town around 1030 Thursday night.

It landed right near him and he had to be evacuated. He didn't get to go back to his house until 1600. He told us he had a broken window, vinyl siding ripped off, a hole in his roof, and sheetrock falling down in his bedroom from the water damage let in from the hole in the roof. Another guy in the van and I went over around 1715 to bring by dinner for his family and do the quick repairs needed before it started raining again last night.

The guy whose house was damaged couldn't do the work himself due to a severely injured back. It looks like he was about to cry everytime he had to bend over. We covered the window, did a quick patch to the sheetrock until the insurance personnel come by, and then found 2 holes in the roof. We ended up patching the 2 holes from the inside since the roof was to high for any of the ladders around. The only people who had the ladders necessary were the hired guns, who were busy way past the time we left.

We finished around 2200 or so. Looking around there were houses with whole sections of roof missing, walls collapsing, and condemned. Overall my buddy got away pretty lucky. No one was hurt and the house got by pretty unscathed. Unfortunately I was tired when I got home and didn't get to have a cigar last night.

That made for an unusual friday night.

Great job helping out Scott!
That sucks for the people who had to experience that though.
Man, the weather has been crazy as shit lately.

That is so sad. I am sorry your friend had to deal with such a mess. I will keep him and his family and neighbors in my prayers. I know you were not looking for praise but that was truly awesome to give your time to help out a friend. Thankfully they are all alright. Please tell your friend we are thinking of them.
