I am glad to see the thread re-opened for one reason and one reason alone - freedom of speech.

His comments/opinion should not be censored by shutting down the thread.
Is it an instigating thread? Quite possibly to some or many.
Is it in any way vulgar or not worthy of print? Absoulutely not - it is a clean opinion in a "everything but cigars" section.
Is there an agenda? Quite possibly.

That said, sometimes silence is the best form of rebuttal.
Aaron may very well be one who gets his jollies out of starting political crap and watching everyone's reaction. If he is that type of person, don't feed him the pleasure of watching the outcome. Since he is not being vulgar or attacking any one person directly, Ignore it enough by not replying and eventually, it will cease. The most important thing is to not censor his freedom of expression just because you don't agree with him. Otherwise, I will just feel like I am in Castro's hands all over again.

well, i hope this "censor" bit wasn't aimed at me, or you equate me to Castro. i wasn't censoring aaron because i don't agree with what he says.

i closed it because this thread is an obvious attempt to ruffle feathers. he posted a link to this topic in reply to another topic where he was taking heat by "liberals" on the forum. so, it was quite obvious that he is/was trying to stir the pot. <--- THAT IS NOT WHAT THIS FORUM IS ABOUT.

i have no problems with people opinions, even ones i don't agree on...

also, these were not HIS opinions. they were reposted from a site by "Dennis Prager".

i'm all for "freedom of speech", but when that person is abusing that freedom to start trouble, that's where i stop it (which is the case here).

just letting someone continue to be a jackass will not make the problem go away... not that i want aaron to go away, but should HE be allowed to say whatever the hell HE wants to on THIS site that HE doesn't own? no.

bah... maybe we should keep bending over backwards for EVERYBODY until NOBODY has any rights. hey, i'm offended, so this person can't post/say that, yet my being offended offended someone else, or pissed someone else off, so now i can't be offended because they're offended...

maybe someone will start a campaign on here about shipping all the cuban americans back to cuba, because they feel they are destroying florida (in whatever way you could imagine - i don't know, just using it as an example) but lets not stop his freedom of speech, no matter how hateful, stupid, and often, this person posts their feelings with the intent to harm/ruffle feathers.

Hooray for the CS admins for reopening this thread, though I actually don't think it'll get very far.

I'd love to see a "Are you a Conservative?" parallel list. SeanGAR made an excellent point that despite holding all three houses of government, the GOP is doing very little to advance the Conservative agenda. For what it's worth, I vote GOP though I would hardly call myself a Republican. I'm much closer to Libertarian but a hawk on defense, believing that diplomacy is proven throughout history to be part of the world's problems, not one of the tools of any solutions.

I am not equating you to Castro.
The Castro reference was because that is exactly what they do in Cuba.
If you differ in opinion, they censor you.
The guy was not nasty or vulger.
Where do you draw the line of shutting off thread?
If I now say Communism rules (which is the last thing you will ever hear me say), in an Everything but Cigars thread, do we shut that down and ban me from the board?

no, not at all. if that's your opinion and you wanted to start a discussion.

this topic was meant to stir the pot and was NOT the authors opinion. it was a statement made by someone else that he pasted here. he was taking heat from some "liberals" for his topic in the "all cigar lounge" in the "outdoor smoking ban" topic... further down the thread, he posted a link to this topic, which was (to me) a clear left hook back at 'em....
i don't disagree with much of what he's said to some degree, but i don't feel the tone/style/way/attitude of this topic was meant to be a "discussion" rather than just jabbing back at the "liberals".

also, as a moderator, i get PMs from ppl about things going on that they feel should NOT be going on. someone might be offended by a post/photo, etc., and they ask me politely to do something about it.
someone here felt this topic needed to be closed as it served no real purpose (other than to stir the pot), to which i agreed and obliged.

if you all want it open, so we don't turn into Castro's Cuba, knock yourselves out.
