Sunday Morning News from the dining room table

Good morning , it is Sunday, 27 Jan. 08 , it is Cold & there is a light snow falling here in da Brugh, I have been out to get the paper & cleaned the walk of snow all ready this morning, paid a quick visit to the Qtr.Deck & turned on the heat, , I will be going out as soon as I get finished with breakfast & have the hunk of beef in the oven , my wife is getting to the point that if we dont have a beef roast on Sunday , well she just isnt as happy as she should, & you all now that when the wife isnt happy, NO ONE IS HAPPY , !! , I will be grilling some fresh cheese this morning with eggs & bacon, Caso fresco , it is a carribean cheese made in a thick block, I slice it about 1.8 inch thick, drop it on a hot,dry grill for a few seconds till it browns , then flip it over , let it sit a bit & plate it, dammmm tasty stuff, add a few drops of tabasco or Joe Perrys bone sucking hot sauce & with an egg , you got a tasty morning starter, , the kona is brewing in the press pot this morning & I have a pot of Tanzanian peaberry ready to go Next, as I sit here on the computer I have the stump of a Don Carlos President jammed between my theeth, you note I said stub , not butt, I havent lit it yet, but it is almost gone , I have been chewing on it since last night, I had my wife car yesterday (mine is in the shop ) & I cant smoke in here car, NO Dammmmm ashtray , not even a cup holder, , well there is a builtin ashtray but it is so dammmm small , & the shifter is floor mounted & it is right in front of the ashtrya , so every time I go to drop an sah , I hit the shifter, & get ashes all over, well that is not going to happen in her car , like it happened in my car , so I dont smoke in her car, but I can chew on the cigar , , , , its OK but no cigar IMHO,
I had a busy week at the shop & had a great time BSing all week, drank some fine coffee & sipped a few different scotches & smoked some fine & not so fine cigars , geeeee it sounds just like a normal week here in da Burgh, hahaha, ,
the snow has tappered off a bit & I finished breakfast, got the roast in the oven & now I am READY for a second trip to the Qtr.Deck this morning, it should be nice & tosty warm out there by now, & as soon as I get this posted, I plan on heading out to the couch in the Qtr.Deck, tuening on some music, & look at the inside of my eye lids for about an hour or so, , not that I am tired or anything like that , BUT I want to slow down from this fast pasted life I am leading hahahaha
, yesterday we did POD cast #53 , it will beposted on the net asap, you can listen to the show at www.burghherfers.com click on the link for the pod cast, lots of fun ! , I drank a bit of EGG NOG yesterday, , I can tell you this, IF you put enough rum, brandy & borboun, in the nog you dont miss the scotch or isish whisky at all , hahahahaha well I can say I did have my fair share of NOG & I just happed to find a little of my home made Hooch, dammmm it had been agining since last Thursday night, dammmm nothing better than fresh squeezed juice , sat in the car over night , got a nice chill on it hahahaha , it didnt last long at all when I got to Alleghney Smoke works, & I got to remember to bitch slap Mike at ASW, they took down the GREENawaning & put up an ORANGE one , I drove right past the place , dammmmmmmm !
No change on the rugrats, they are both getting on each others nerves, but I guess thats what Brothers are for ! I can pick on my brother , but you better not pick on my brother cause that MY job, so they get along like cats & dogs he looked at me, he is breathing my air , dammmmmm now there Mother is getting her pay back for being the Pain in the @$$ she was as a child !
I have been having a little trouble with the eyes agin, dammmmm its tuff getting old , still havent learned to touch tupe, or sppell so I might have gotten a few keys hit wrong , yea like I would even notice, but id tofays spelling is worse than usual , well just chalk it up to poor typing skills & not knowing how to spell smoething in th first place hahahaha !
As I sit her looking out the window, all the trees have a fresh white coat of snowon the branches , looks great, but then it will freeze, encasing the tree in ICE, & that looks wonderful, then it snows again & the snow sticks , & builds up still looking better all the time, BUT all the added weight breaks the branches & down they come, taking the phone lines & power lins down as they go, No power, no computer, no HEAT or water, cant make coffee C A N T M A K E COFFEE !!!!!!!!!! , well as long as the local coffee shop has power I can go out for a cup or 2 make that a Thermos full ! , right now thew kona is finished , I just poured the last cup , & the peaberry is getting ready to fire up
by now the Qtr.Deck shpould be warm, it was 25F inthere when I turned on the heat this morning
The sun is out casting a nice shadow , so it is Time for me to get off the computer & tend to a more importaint Sunday morning Task, , like getting to the Qtr.deck having a scotch, cigar , coffee & a NAP ! hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday FEBUARY 3,2008, the Groundhog saw his shadow yesterday in Punxatuanny Pa & we are all set for 6 more weeks of winter , well thats thew way it goes, but if the groundhog dosent see his shadow we are in for 6 more weeks of winter so I have no idea why we even worry about what the groundhog has to say, , its just an excuse to have a party, well I have learned over the years, I dont need an excuse to have a pasty, , I celebrate LIFE every day , when its all over , & we all meet God face to face do you want to be in a pristene body still with the wrapping on , or in a worn out body yelling Man what a Ride , well I plan on the later, when I go , I will be all used up, , lets face it , we are here to Enjoy our life, so getb out there & enjoy!!!!!,
busy few day at the shop, ,,Tuesday was a whole other story, the worst day since we opened , it was cold & rainy & we had a great monday , so I guess the people just stayed home , warm & dry, It was a gppd week overall , we didnt hit our numbers from last jan . but we were doarn close , & if we have a good first qtr. I might ask the boss for a 5 buck a week raise hahaha , right now I get a nice fresh 20 bucks a week , well I think I might want 25 a week from here on out hahahaha , lets face it prices are going up on food gas & the cigars havent kept pace with the cost of doing business, well i might have to start charging for coffee at the shop, or just get washable cups, the way we go through a case of cups is crazy, I have my Cuesta Rae travel mug that I use all the time , a few other regulars have there own mugs but I am going through a sleeve of cups a day, I dont count the pots of coffee anymore , dammmm I think some one might be steeling the cups hahahahaha , maybe I should just stop at the local coffee shop & get cups from them , they give me the cups for free & I dont charge them to advertise in my store ! hummmmm I wonder if that wiull work, but my coffee is better than there coffee hahahaha , now I dont make capachino or lateys or any of the disigner drinks, JUST Coffee , & some times I will add a few extra scoops of dark roast coffee & make a pot of espresso strength coffee, yea baby that will put a slide & glide to your walk !
when I got up early this morning everything was covered in a sheet of ice , it was just short of spacutular , but now the sun is out & the sky is blue & the frost is gone from everything & it is looking like a regular winter day , little patches of snow are in the fiels & at the end of the drive way , but the walks are all clear as well as the roads,
I got the estamate of the deer damage to barbs car, 1800 bucks & one dead doe, thank GOD the air bags didnt go off, might have totaled her Contour , my Sable was in the shop & I was driver her car, , small but comfortable compaired to my sable, but I like the little beast , with a V6 that thing has more get up & go than my car for sure , hers might be a little older, than mine, but it has about half the milage on it , thew big draw back to her car, no cup holders or big enough ashtray, I have a BIG ashtry in the sable, it fits right in the cup holder & holds a lot of cigar ashes & butts , the console gets a lot of ash that misses the ashtray hahaha , hey its MY car & it looks like a car that a smoker would own, the drivers seat has a few burn marks in it the shifter is also got a few "battle scars" on it as well as the head liner & sunroof, I dont smoke in her car just no place to put my coffee cup & the ashtray is tiny, so I hold my coffee & drive , just dont have the cordination to do it all any more, I remember when I drove a stick shift with out a cup holder, drank coffee on my way to work, tied my neck tie, ate a donut & smoked a cigar & never missed a shift on the way !, but now I have grown old & soft, ( in more ways than one hahaha )
I need that cup holder, I need the BIG ashtray, I need a sunroof to vent the smoke , her car has a sunroof , but it just dosent have the feel on my car 7 it smells like a ladys car, not a cigar smokers car, she cleans her car all the time, mine gets washed when it rains ! hahaha
The Grandsons have been busy all week, there was a science fair this past week 7 the older one entered some plants that he wattered with coke, sprite & other soift drinks & a control group he did with just water & mulch , the plants that did the best were the ones with a steady diet of BEER, , after it had been filtered through his fathers kidneys hahahahaha ( this one was not in the control group) , but in a seperate box in the basement in the workshop awy from all the outer plants Hummmm I just wonder why he never came up stairs to use the bathroom , hahahahaha , report cards hit the mailbox this week, both did great , , all A's but for one B , the older grandson is getting bored & just didnt pay attention , so he is thinking of picking up a cyber class to stay sharp , dammmmmm I have no idea where they get ther smarts, sure wasnt from ME hahahahaha , spoeaking of Smarts, my daughter just got finished at Duquesne Univ, 3.87 GPA , MagnaCum Laudy , & the best part about this diploma, I didnt pay a cent for it, Up front anyhow, she supported herself with help from her husbandof course, & worked a full time job& still hit the books to graduate at the top of her class, , it is a big difference going to school as an adult, that a teen ager, now you all ready know how may beers it takes till you Barf , no reason to try & beat the old record when you know you have a husband & kids at home that will expect you to be ready no matter how hard you "studdyed " last night ! , ahhhh yes I remember that time of my life , studdying, hummmmm , how many beers per chapter was A tale of 2 Citys ? & back then Beer was just that BEER, no lite beer, no flavored coolers, JUST BEER , the way the German purity laws tell you, BEER, is WATER , Barley , & hops , dont be sticking Coryander in my beer or lemon grass, let alone fruit, like who wants a lime stuck in the neck of a corona ? come on , if you want to drink some thing with a lime in it have a daquari or a gin & tonic, dont put a lime in my beer thatn you ! , I love lime in a pie or in a mixed drink when I have one ( which are few & far between ) if there is no scotch or coffee I will have iced tea or water , no reason to confuse my taste buds but tossing in a glass of Coke or rootbeer hahahaha
since its Sunday & if I want to keep PEACE in the house I have a hunk of Chuck roast getting ready to be creamated , if thats what she wants , that what she gets , I give up trying to get her to eat rare beef, & a chuck needs to be slow cooed & it has a great flavor & makes some of the best gravy I have ever had or made , I just wish the markets sold the 7 bone chuck again, it had a better flavor than the boneless cuts that are being sold now, , & I BUY a shank to get the bone to cook with the meat to add the flavor, the old butcher shops would give you a pile of bones, now they charge you for them, dammmmmm what ever happened to this countrys eating habbits, , I used to be able to buy PURE lard in the grocery store, now I need to order it 3 weeks in advance , you need LARD to make pie crust & REAL Donuts need to be cooked in LARD, not peanut oil , dammmm Hippy do gooders, vegans beware I am a MEAT EATER, T REX of the modern worldI am at the top of the food chain , ( unless I run into a grizly of the dreaded great white shark) hahahaha , but as a Human I eat meat , veggies & grains of all sorts, some natural, some Fermented & distilled to the purest essence of the grain ! hahahaha , I enjoy a fine cigar a few times a day & indulge in a bit of high risk when I eat raw tuna, , shrimp ,salmon, & beef, the way to cook coby beef is slice it thin & let the heat of your mouth cook it ! hahahahaha , now I do cook my pork chicken other game animals but some things are just better in there natural state, kind like P-$$y , you dont want that cooked before you eat it ! hahaha , but I digress & get a little gross, but dammmm that what we are here for , TO LIVE LIFE to its Fullest & if you never get anything from reading my posts you will now that I love being alive & living life to the fullest I can handle, with out making the wife mad, well I almost never cross the line hahahaha !!!

lat night my flag light & walkway lights were not on the ground fault had tripped & since it was cold & I didnt want to mess with the electric in the wet & cold I just unpluged everything but the flag light , , I didnt want to take down the flag, so today I will be going out with the circut tester & find out why I was poppong the GROUND FAULT, , dammmmm that going to take away @$$ time in the Qtr.Deck, well the heat is on the Kona is almost gone & I have a pot of Dark roast Italian coffee ground verry fine , that I will dump in the press pot & pour through a filter, as I dont think the press in the pot will catch the fine particals of coffee, & I just dont like to drink the grounds , I chew enough coffee beans all ready, dont need water loged bits in my cup !
I have a few new cigars to try today, we got all 19 different facings of the Altadis Cabnet selection, 5 different Por Langera, 5 different Upmans & Montes & 4 R&J , dammmm 19 new cigars to smoke, that might take all week hahahahaha maybe 3 days anyhow, I am starting with the coronas & working up to the BIG SOB'S , still havent found a better morning smoke than the Don Carlos #3 , I think I like it better than the Contraband Monte corona I had yesterday , not that I would ever comllain about a contraband Monte or anything like that, but I have a feeling the greatness is in the reputation, I wonder how many of us cold do a Blindfolded taste teast, not just unbanded cigars but an actual bling fold, so you cant see the construction, the color , the cap or the ash, a truely BLIND taste test & pick out the contraband Monte or R&J from a great excepped cigar from the Padron anniv. line or an Opus , Hummmm I wonder, I would be willing to try this, But the "Buddys " I got will keep the contraband snmpoke & toss in a Swisher or a blunt ! hahahaha , I just dont trust them if I cant see them hahahaha
, well its about time for me to head out to the QTR.DECK, , OH yea today is superbowl sunday, I dont think I will be anyplce near a TV today , I dont think I will miss much ! , just hope I have the numbers on the football pool !!!!! Enjoy, Vince

Good morning it is Sunday 10 Feb, 2008, it has been a busy week here in da Burgh, our shipment of "Cabnet selections" from Altadis was delivered & so were 16 cases of Humidors, an after Christmas blow out of the warehouse so I loaded up just in time for fathersday !!! , I took my wifes car to the body shop (after hitting a deer last week ) & got it back Saturday, well it is going back on Monday, they missed a bit of paint , , not that a blind person wasnt able to see this, the car is Blue, they put on a used door & rocker cover from a white car , BIG white stripe on the bottom of the door & top of the rocker panel cover , , the chin spoiler is hanging down on one side & the door latch on the door that was replaced still had the deer fur jamed in it , , if your going to use the same handle , the lest you could do was clean it up a bit , dammmmmm , verry disapointed in the quality of the work, 1800 bucks wort of dead deer , Oh well you all knowe the old saying , if it has tires or tits it will give you trouble , so it has tires & the owner has the tits , I got stuck with all the dealings with the shop. LUCKY ME.
we had a white out this morning 45 MPH winds with snow, wasnt able to see the trees across the street , it was solid whits, now the sun is out the winds have subsidded a bit & the new blanket of snow is covering everything & the view out my window is beautyful, I have all ready went out & turned on the heat in the Qtr.Deck, it was 35 F in side this morning, I hope it is about 65 by the time I am ready to go out for the afternoon cigar, didnt get a morning one in , just slept in till after 10am dammm I needed that, today will be a Laugavulin day in the qtrdeck, , it would be a laphroaig day but I dont have any , drank it all friday night at the shop, , so today the coffee will be the end of the kona & the start of the Black silk a dammm tasty product from Folgers of all places, i had some at the supermarket one day this past week & I bought it , dammmm tasty & smooth, a "sliky" feel on the mouth , I have been roasting my own for some time & this is a real find IMHO, , I like it , but dont go by my taste buds , I like ketchup on a hotdog some times ! , YES I know MUSTARD is the propper condiment on a dog , but I dare to be different hahahaha
Since it is Sunday & the Boss wants her Hunk of beef , I have a chuck roast readt to go in the cast iron pot & get tender , I was going to add some tomato sauce , but then I will need to make a mess making sauce first, I dont think I want to get that busy in the kitchen so it will be in a beef stock & the potatos & onions & carrots with a little celery will be the sides , dammmm it is getting boreing here on Sundays , BUT thats what she wants, & BY GOD THATS WHAT SHE GETS , keep peace to keep PIECE hahahaha
My daughter got a new Mazda SUV , traded in the van , now she is a some what happy camper, mom in a mini van no more , now she is MOM in a 4wd SUV gas guzzler , hey all I know is with her 2 kids his 2 kids the 6 of them need a limoto get arround hahaha .

went to the eye doc again, got a steroid injection in the right eyeball, dammmmm thats freeky this is the 3rd or 4th time I have gotten this, , but it is seaming to help with the vision a bit, , a bit PAINFULL but better than Brail ! & to add to the mix I did go to the regular MD , & dammmmmmmmm over the holidays I went from 220 to 233 , 13 pounds of JUNK food showed up dammmmmm better stop this before I end up back where I started at 417, , dammmmmmm I thought I was cured of the over eating but I think it might not be true, I think it is more like a guy from AA having a beer or 2 instead of a bottle of gin, sooner or later the old habbit returns, so today, NO MORE Chocolate , dammmmm thats going to be tuff, I was never a sweet eater the deserts didnt excite me as much as having a second porterhouse did , but now the sweet tooth has been awakened & I am in deep $hit , chocolate covered nuts are my down fall !


well its almost noon & I need to get in the kitchen & start the hunk of beef for the boss ! Enjoy, Vince

The beef in the pot sounds good but I am thinking of grilling tonight. We'll see though. Temp is cool...

I feel your pain about the body shop. My daughter put my 2001 Chrysler 300M in the ditch yesterday. Luckily I have a really good body guy who does work on my cars.

One of the good points of working at UPS. Alot of auto connections.

Kills me about the car. Pisser that you have bonehead body shop guys there too...thought it was only in Florida. good morning it is Sunday ,17 Feb,2008, just a few days past Valintines day & I still have a slight sugar rush hahahaha , My wife got a new large type Bible from me & I got a box of Don pepin Garcia Cigars from her, No chocolate this year Yea like we both need it hahahaha , we have a few inches of snow on the ground right now but it is raining & the high today is in the low 50's....... just like the burgh, the weather is never what it should be , , why cant it get cold in December , stay cold till the end of Feb. & then warm up , , get all the snow for the season in the first few weeks & then it stays on the ground till the spring thaw, none of this melting & refreezing, all it can do is make life miserable for the road crews , the salt gets into the bridge decks & supports & starts them rusting before they should, , the water gets in the surface of the road , freezes & breaks up the asphalt & the dammmm salt eats the cement, & the guys who build the roads know the weather is going to chew up the job, so they build it fast & cheep so that they can get the repair contract next year to fix what they just built, ahhhh yes politics in action, , John smith is the political big shot, Joe smith is the contractor bidding against bob smith & dan smith ( all cousins) so no matter who gets the job, the smith family gets a kick back & we the tax payers get to pay for it all. Capitalisum at it best ! , the only problem I have with it , I'm not related to the smiths ! hahahaha
well enough of the soap box BS lets get back to the Sunday Morning smoke , Lat Friday night we had a Playboy cigar tasting at King Beaver Cigars , the place was packed , a good bit of Glenlivette , Spayburn & Jhonny walker Black was consumed as well as a lot of cigars & 2 cases of beer , one Sam Adamas & one Coors Gold , I didnt have any beer at all but its been so long since I had a Coors , or a sam Adamas, I dont know what I would have had, , , , Just cant do the carbonation anymore , a few sips & I am FULL, well that will never work, so I just stay away from the beer, , the local brew pub closed when I stopping drinking beer , I didnt realize I was keeping it open hahahahaha

BIG menu change today , NO BEEF for the boss today, I have a hunk of PORK to cook today , it will get a quick dip in the hot oil to crisp the out side & them low & slow in the oven with some dry & fresh fruits & a little oniona little home made BBQ sauce might just get made today if I have the time hahahaha , I will be heading out to the Qtr.deck to turn on a little heat , even with a high of 50 thats just a little cool to be sitting i short sleves & enjoying a cigar , so a little heat will be welcome today .
I have no other plans for today the boys are spending the weekend with there dad in West Va . doing Lord knows what , to cold to go fishing to warm to go sled riding, but I am sure they will find some sort of problems to get in to , no different if they were here with me, WE would find something to get into to tick off there mother or grandmother, hey thats what we are here to do raise the kids like we were raised , having grandsons is the reward for not killing our kids when they were young ! , I loved hanging out with my grandparents when I was young& now that I am the grandfather & find the same peace & harmony I did when I was a kid, well I guess I still am a kid, just one with a drivers licence & the cash flow to buy my own cigars & whisky,,,, dammmmm thats scarry, my wife trusts me to take her grandsons out, yea they are my grandsons also but you cant tell her that ! she is as protective as a mother lion with her cubs & of course she will keep telling our daughter she is raising them kids all wrong ! hahahaha

well the Boss has awakened from her buity sleep & is wondering why I dont have breakfast started so I guess I better get off the computer & start making the stove my priority , bacon & eggs sound ok to me , but she wants french toast so it will be french toast & bacon , warm maple syrup & fresh fruit & the first pot will be Kona the second will be a pot of FOLDGERS Black Silk , I have no idea why but I like that stuff with a cigar so when I hit the Qtr.Deck I will have my Sunday morning Don Carlos #3 , a cup of kona & the rest of the day will be the Black silk, , who knows how long this one will last , if I realllllly get too liking it the manufactuering company will stop production of it , or my taste buds will change or just get tired of it , then it will go on sale but I dont want it anymore, but isnt that the way things always go ?
lets face it life is a crazy mixed up mess & if everything went smooth no one would develope any charactor or backbone , we are products of our own worse fears & imagination , we need advercity to make us think & with that philosiphacal note , I think I will have a cigar & some more Coffee, ENJOY, Vince

God knows I have been enjoying the single malt scotches, Irish whisky & a bottle of Welsh whisky, Penderyn , havent had any problems with anyof them, just cant take the bubbles !!!!
I just emptyed a bottle of laugavulin, looking fwd. for the next one !
