Hope everything's alright, and soon both of you can kick back on the quarter deck and have a smoke.

Good morning it is Sunday JUNE THIRD , 07 , dammmmmm June allready , seams like we were shoveling snow a short time ago, I know its Hot out as I have started to cary an extra hankey to wipe my face , the hat band on my straw hat has salt stains on it all ready ! The weather has been picture perfect , the grass is green the sky is blue , what more could you ask for , well maybe a BIG mug of Kona & a fine aged cigar from a little place about 90 miles from Key west , & thanks to a Buddy Sven from Sweden , I will be partaking in a classic this morning , a Punch Punch with the Kona, But I think the Kona might not stand up to the Punch so I might just hold off on the Punch till I make my second pot of the morning , Kenya AA ,brewed in the espresso pot , Nice & rich, strong & THICK, yea baby !!
well it has been a week of pins & needles the boss has had a Colinoscopy & a Biospsy of the breast, the colin exam was good & we will find out the breast exam Monday Morning at 8 :15 , there is no family history of any of my wifes Aunts having breast cancer, my Mother in law was the baby of 12 , 7 sisters & 5 brothers , all of the sisters including my Mother in law have or had Altzhimers , all the brothers had heart problems that led to there demise, my mother in law is the last of her family , she is in a verry nice Private facility , dammmmmm thing better be nice as they get her Social secuity , pention check from her job , & each one of the 3 kids kicks in an additional 250 a month now , so she is welll taken care of , she know who I am & who her Great Grandsons are, But always askes who is the nice lady that brings her grandsons to see her? well its your grandaughter & they are your great grandsons , Oh yea thats right she will say & in the next breath ask where Kendra is , ( her grand daughter ) , Oh well she had a great life if she only could remember it .

I stopped at the new bakery a few doors up the street from the cigar shop & had a canolli & a cup of coffee, Not bad for a mass production made pastry , one of our regular cigarcustomers got a dozen , ate 9 of them & said since he didnt go into sugar shock he didnt have diabetis , I told him to get to a Doc & have a test to be sure dammmm fool , its nothing to joke about , , it killed my father & had a good grip on me till I took off the 202 pounds , now I dont inject anything watch my diet & thats it , no Meds for the Diabetis at all ! , it did leave me with some damage, the left eye is about shot & I still have a bit of neuropithy in the feet & hands , the cold weather really gets to the fingers & toes . BUT I am srill here kicking @$$ & taking Names ! well lets get back to the bakery, I picked up a small loaf of the bread, it was good but not outstanding, I sliced it last night & let it sit out to get stale , it made great French toast this morning ! , that reminds me to get more vannilla extract .
we got the NEW limited addition of the Romeo & Julitta in the fancy dressed up boxes with the foam dividers between each tubed cigar , the presentation is fantastic & the cigar is wonderful, , the cost is CRAZY HIGH MSRP is almost 20 bucks for the robusto , the churchill & the torp are over the 20 line , when I start paying that much for a smoke I better be getting a drink, Supper , & breakfast & what comes in between for that kind of scratch , LOL
My wife & I are still going for our Cigar rides on Saturday evenings , even witht he gas at 3.09 a gallon , I figure it is the best time for us to sprnd any time together with out the grandkids or the phone ringing ( NO cell phone for me ) you want me , call me at home or at work, if I am not there leave a message on the machine, I will (maybe ) get back to you in a timley fashion, depends on my mood ! hahahahaha , well I took 3 cigars & off we went , looking for the old Idora Park, an amusment park in Youngstown Ohio that we both have great childhood memorys , well the pak had a major fire about 12 years ago & it is now just a Big over grown field , fenced in & NOTHING going on inside the fence, all the rides & buildings are gone , just weeds growning , an other childhood good time all gone, cant share it with the grandsons as it is GONE, well I was down to my last cigar ( with me ) & figured it was a good time to stop at Plaza Books in Boardman Ohio for some Coffee & restock the 3 finger in my left chest pocket, , thankfully they were open & I went in the regulars were all up front watching the Tube & I was looking for some thing I didnt have , some off the wall brand or a shop brand , just to try some thing different, well I did pick up a shop brand Torp & was just looking for the 1926 ammiv. just to compair prices hahahaha , well the lady who is working asks me if I am friends with Mike Hervatine , , well this floors me , here I am about 50/60 miles from home & this lady askes me if I know this guy who just happens to be the Mikey I always talk about here, he had a stroke in the O.R. when he was having a new valve put in his heart , he & I have been friends for over 20 years , now How did this lady know Mike? she is married to his nephew , Now I have only met her 2 other times & I dont remember her at all but she rememberd me , mabe it was the cigar, the beard or the voice, maybe all 3 tied up in one cute package hahahahaha , I will be calling mike soon, he should be home from church about 1 Pm . , seams like I cant go anyplace
so on the way home I stop for Gas (3.04 ) & it is a pre pay pump , as I go in one og the kids who works at the cigar shop for me is comming out , dammmmm good thing I had my wife & not my Girllfriend with me I would have been caught TWICE on the same night ! hahaha

I have a nice purple egg plant to grill this afternoon with a Ribeye , I will be putting Barbs on a few minutes from Now & put mine of at 5 to 4 we will eat at 4 hahahaha , she wants her beef cooked , I just want mine warm! MOOOOOOOOO
yesterdas scoccor game was a lot of fun, they had just enough kids to field a team , no bench players this week & Jonas had to play the entire game, dammmm he was a ball of stink after the game , he had a great centering pass thatwent for a score 7 he took 2 shots him self, one hit the cross bar & the golie caught the other one, I have no idea what the score was or who won , the kids know , so they are happy ! And isnt that waht its all about, making the rug rats happy? I was a happy child, still am , hahaha Happy & a child ! Just now I have a drivers licence & an allowed by law to buy my own whisky , dont need an adult to get it for me hahahahah.
I will be fireing up a Zino classic #6 some time today , maybe tonight after the Punch , I havent had one of them yet but toiday seams like a good day for a fine smoke, well I will determine how fine some time today, , it is time fo r me to get back to the kitchen & thing about what i amn going to do with the beef today, dry rub/ marinade, BBQ? , DEEP FRY ??? hahahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Well Good morning to all the readers posters & lurkers here at Am back & related forums, it has been a very Quiet week here at the Qtr.Deck, not a lot happening the weather has been GLORIOUS, the cigars are smoking just fine & the coffee has been tasting great, we did have a Camacho event at the shop Thursday night & a few of the local Camacho whores showed up , & I was able to enjoy the evening & we killed a bottle of Spayburn & put the hurt on a Carol Ida , I took Friday off & went to my nephews HS graduation , I broke out a box of cigars that I bought when he started first grade, shared them with him & his father , I have done this with all my nephews , I am the only one in the family with a daughter so there are lots of boys , all but 2 are cigar smopkers today, dammmm I wonder how that happened !!?????
& the 2 who dont smoke cigars are my only Brothers sons & both think tobacco is bad for you, but my brother is a cigar smoker & his wife is a cigerette smoker amoung other things hahahaha , but the other 4 are all Brothers of the leaf !,
I am NOT cooking today , I am taking the day off , today is my grandsons dance review so I will be spending the day at the high school & watching a Bunch of young kids dance , dammmmm to nice a day to be inside watching a few hundred kids dance in an auditorium that is NOT equipped with A/C!, I plan on going in & out a good deal of the day looking for some shade in front of the school, & a bench to sit on with a cup of coffee & a cigar, I am not taking a flask to the school, I havent done that in a long time hahaha .
well no food , No excitement to tell you about, no outlandish drinks or off the wall coffees & nothing exciting as far as Cigars go , so that about it for this week, who knows maybe something will happen & I will get back to you all asap !

NOW Get out & enjoy the sunshine !!

Good morning to all you Fathers , Grandfathers & All others out there in Cigar land it is 17 June 07 & it is the made up holiday ( just to sell more greating cards ) its fathers day, well can any of you tell me WHEN fathers day is, simple, 9 months BEFORE mothers day hahaha , I was suprised at breakfast this morning woth a great gift pack of Cigars from my wife , ( nothing from the daughter as yet ) 3 Emerald torps from La Aurora ,3 GrandCuvee,& 3 Leon Jemmies Coronas, , I think I will be firing up an emerald this morning as soon as I get off the computer , I made a Pot of Pappa New Geny thius morning , I was wanting some thing a Bit BOLDER than the usuall Sunday morning Kona , Disapointing to say the lest , thin & no body to it , but rather than Dump the pot I am drinking it , but I think this will be the last cup & I will make a pot of Columbian or mayby a pot of Brizillian Santos.
Well Bloofy old boy I broke down & got a bottle of BOURBON & a KY. made & bottled Heaven Hill , I just cant justify the price of Bookers or Blantons since I will be drinking Scotch & I do have a taste for Old Grandad 100 Proof the store didnt have any on the shelf & the 20 YO Pappy van Winkel was way to much , the only size of Knob creek was the HUGE SOB & over 50 bucks so it stayed on the shelf, not much of a selection , I should have went to a second shop , BUT It had the single malt Islay I wanted to try, so I just settled for what ever else they had , I have tryed to drink Bourbon many times but I miss the smoke & iodine of scotch , had I been raised drinking Old Grandad instead of Haig & Haig Pinch Bottle I might have had a different set of taste buds this late in life . Not that I am OLD hahahaha
We went for our Saturday night Cigar ride last night I I had a Prodomo Fresco robusto, we got a late start , had to run to the store for things for her mother so I just grabbed a robusto for the ride & it was a fine smoke , we ended up In East Liverpool Ohio for some reason, & ended up right in the middle of the towns Fireworks display , they were having some kind of celebration & had all the downtown streets blocked off & all kinds of games , Rides & food booths all over the place , well we got out of the traffic 7 headed home but we did stop at TIM HORTONS for a dounut , I was Not impressed good but no Crispy Cream !!!!
Now dont get you pantys in a knot it was almost 10PM & they were getting ready to close , the donuts were not as fresh as they could have been so I will reserve judgement till I get there early in the morning & have a HOT fresh one with a cup of coffee before I pass final judgement on MY taste buds reaction to the world famous Tim Horton Dounut , My first choice is & will always be Orams Dounuts , it is a ONE shop deal , family owned & has been in the same place as long as I can remember , the place is OLD & tired but the Dounuts , ahhhh yes the dounuts , I havent had one in a few months , I just cant eat them like I did before the by pass, BIG heavy filled with Custard & dipped in Chocolate frosting & stripped with a peanut butter drizzle , Dammmmm some times I wonder why I had the bypass & now I understand , way to many trips to Orams & places like it, to much time in the kitchen & not enough time outside cutting grass & staying Fit. dammmm it was FUN though ! hahaha
I will be making Veal today since it is Fathers day I making my wifes favorite meal , just maybe I will get what I want for fathers day hahahaha
We have had a KICK @$$ week at the shop lots of little kids with there mothers comming in for a Cigar for Daddy , & a few HOT mothers to boot dammmmmmmmmm , & there have been a Few NEW faces in the shop & at the Qtr.Deck this past week, some of the posters, Lurkers & hangers on have showed up for the Thursday Night at the QTR.DECK & the Friday night BYOB at the shop , this past Thursday we recored the Fathers day POD cast right from the QTR.DECK , you can listen to all the pod casts just go to www.Burghherfers.com & click on the link to the Blowen smoke pod cast or you can google blowen smoke podcast & sooner or later you will get there .
I did get a NEW set of Glasses this week, dammmm can I see so much better, since I have had the Surgery on the lft eye & my Visoin with the old glasses was 20/400 , now it is 20/70 , dammmm the road is Much clearer Now hahahaha & all this time I thought it was just the cigar smnoke clouding my sight !,

my wife just brought in a new pot of Coffee , ahhhhh Kenya AA , this calls for a Cigar hahahah, Have a great Fathers day to all you dads & all you guys practicing to be fathers , But remember anyone can father a child, it takes a real man to be a DADDY to the baby, But in My experence it is MUCH better being a grandfather , it is like having a new puppy, all the love with out the hassle of every day life , just spoil them & give them back to there mother, just like you mother & mother in law did with your kids !! Enjoy, Vince

Hi Vince, thanks for the weekly update. You have a colorful life. Regarding Bourbon, just like you, my taste buds just seem to be tilted a certain way and in my case it is towards the Bourbon. Scotch just seems to lack that extra Ummmphf that I get from Bourbon. But, I am not a picky kinda guy, so I will happily drink either. I've been on a Knob Creek and Evan Williams Single Barrel kick lately. Perhaps you can suggest a Scotch that is not too expensive (less than $50) that has a good hearty flavor? I have most of the common Glenlivets and the Macallan 12. Maybe I am just not buying the right thing.

Best regards,

John

SPAYBURN, a WONDERFULL single malt under 25 Bucks a bottle 10YO & IMHO one of the best drams I have ever sipped, my all time favorite sms is laugavulin but at 70 bucks a bottle they are few & far between, A'brunda is the same price & barrel proof at 121.some thing its a tasty toffy like weee dram but it will kick your sorry behind if you over indulge , & thats some thing I try not to do anymore . hahaha , got a slight buzz right now, 3 fine cigars into the day, a glass of wine with supper & just a weeeee dram with the cigars & coffee before I stopped smoking to come in & cook the Veal cutlets , the wine pan sauce was OUTSTANDING if I do say so my self, even the wife liked it ! Enjoy, Vince
