Good morning it is Sunday , 12 August 2007, for some Freudian reason I wrote 1970 the first time , dammmm where is my head at , still lost on the 70's hahahaha , now had it been lost in the 60's well that I would understand, but by the 70's I was straighten end out (just a weee bit anyhow) , but I digress , isn't that normal for me ? well it has been a BUSY & strange week here in the Burgh , we had a small tornado hit the down town area , & HEAVY straight line winds & a LOT of rain 4 inches in an hour hit some areas , My yard is a swamp , but the birds are loving it, bugs every place you look & fat robins gulping them down .a lot of areas were flooded some low intersections had 4 feet of water , the storm drains were full & over flowing , a lot of sewers were backing up & creeks were out of the banks , the Rivers were able to handle the run off but the river traffic was slow & choppy , not a good week for ducks & geese at North Park , we have a Gaggle of geese & then some , $hitting every place in the park, they never leave all winter, they are ether to lazy to go south or to stupid to find there way, well the survival of the fittest came into being this past week as a few hundred of them were rounded up & Cooked .

it has been a long week at the shop, Gerry got back from the RT DA show in Houston, I stayed back at the shop & kept an eye on things , with school starting soon I am going to loose my summer help so I need some one to work, Thursday evening, Friday mornings, Saturday & Sundays , in the words of Ferris Bulher 's teacher, Anyone ? hahaha
I got a new set of rear struts for the Bosses car , dammmm little car runs fine , maybe I should trade cars with her , Better not I would only get in trouble ,that 24 Valve DOHC V6 in that little Contour body has a gang of get up & go, better she gets nabbed for the heavy foot , I can use all the ammo I can get to make this life a fair fight , so far she is winning & will always win the war & the battles , but some day , by a slim chance to none , she will hahahaha admit she was wrong about some thing no matter how minor or trivial it is but that will be the feather in my hat, after our first 37 years of marriage she has yet to say I was right about anything ! , hahahahaha

we did go out a bit last night for a short cigar ride I was a bit beat form a hard day at the local Fire dept. Fund raiser , a Gun show , swap & ticket show , I was selling cigars & dammmm it was tuff, sitting in the shade ( NO A/C) drinking water, NO COFFEE !, NO jazz on the CD player, NO MUSIC at all in fact , so I sat there behind the table loaded with humidors filled with cigars & all day long I clipped ,lit & sold cigars, dammmm it was almost like a day at the shop, but a Lot of NEW faces, & dammmm thats what I was there for , to introduce new faces to the leaf & the SHOP !!!!

we had the maple trees shaped & topped this week, they were starting to look a little rough well with all the heavy weather we got this past week, I could have saved the 75 bucks a tree , any one have a chain saw & need some fire wood ? ANYONE ? hahaha , Yes the heavy weather didn't hit till after I paid the guy, now I have 2 very nice looking trees , with out many leaves on them , looks like winter has come early to the burgh !

it is going to be a warm one here again 85 F , better than all the 90+ stuff we were having last week, , I have a few bushes & shrubs to trim , BTW what the H3LL is the difference between a bush & a shrub, I know a shrub is a green plant like thing that grown in your yard, & a bush is some thing you bury you face in, but I am not talking about that kind of bush ( nor am I talking about the President or his Father ) , Bush & Shrubs, , strange this English language , but it it is the only one I know , I have not used the Italian or German since the great grandparents & grandparents passed, dammmmm shame I didn't keep up with it,
I have a dilemma today, I want to get the grill fired up & the boss wants a roast, I guess I will make the roast on the grill , that way we both get almost what we want, Compromise , a trem married people use to make sure the other person never gets what they want , or you for a matter of fact, , I suggested we do it her way this time & MY way next time, but over the years , my time never comes , or should I spell it a bit differently hahahaha
, I better get going I have a lot of yardwork to be supervised as I do it , & I dont want to interfear with her reading the Sunday paper !
time for a second pot of Kona & my first Don Carlos #3 of the day, I got a late start on the cigars, by noon I have had at lest 2 or 3 but today not any yet ! dammmm time to GET GOING !

Enjoy, Vince

Nice work, Vince. You inspired me with all your talk of the Don Carlos, so in observance of my 41st birthday, I am lighting up an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos Presidente this morning with my coffee. To our health, cheers!

Thanks for that visual, Vince. This is a fine cigar. Love the depth of flavor.

Is there anyway to tell the difference between the Hemmingway and the Don Carlos from the bands? At first glance, they seem to share the same band.

the Hemmingways all have a tapered head & nipple foot from the short story to the masterpiece they all share the same "look"the Don Carlos line have the conventional shape of the standard cigar , no tapered head & no nipple foot, the bands are the same as far as I can see, even the Sungrown chatueu has the black band at the bottom, unlike the green band of the regular Fuente line , but my favorite is the one with the WHITE band at the bottom , the Anejo , IMHO its better than the OPUS !
Enjoy, Vince

Good morning cigar smokers & readers of the Sunday morning smoke, & news from the dinning room table, today is a wet & cool day here in da Burgh ,rain , nice & gentile , that just means the grass will frow faster ! we had a srange week at the shop last Monday was the worst day since we opened ! , didnt even cover a hundred bucks, it was like the cigar smokers were all out of town, even the UPS guy skipped by us on Monday , BUT on Tuesday Everyone & there long lost brother & uncles showed up , it was the best day we have had since last Christmas , so back to back record setting days , one positive one negative , well it all balances out to 2 average days !!
I had a great day at home yesterday, Barb went shopping with her sister & I was able to sit on the deck all day , a lot of cigar buddys showed up & a few cigars were smoked,& a weee dram of Laugavulin was consumed along with a few pots of coffee , a sort of mini herf with people comming & going all day , Then the boss came home with an arm full of packages & like rats deserting a sinking ship all the cigar smokers "Got to get home " & they left me alone to see what she had spent all her money on ! dammmmm stranded all by my self, just her & the packages to show me , dammmm bring out the bamboo under the fingernails !
well last week was out 37th anniv & we are having our special dinner today , I picked up a nice set of porterhouse steaks some corn on the cob,& some Yams that I will par boil & then grill with the beef, a few mushrooms & onions for the beef , maybe a little greens with a light dressing & I just might pull the cork on a bottle of Barbarra, I do know there will be a little scotch consumed after we eat no matter what we have to drink with it !.
While barb & her sister were out shopping yesterday they stopped in Volant Pa , a small tourest trap with a ton of gift shops & specialty stores , well it is in Amish counrty & they got some GREAT baked goods , last night I sliced the bread & let it sit out on the counter top to allow it to go a little stale, & I made french toast with it this morning , dammmmmmmmm was it great, the bread sopped up the egg mixture & grilled to a golden hue , I made 4 slices for the 2 of us & I didnt finish my 2 slices Barb did nt get as far as I did , dammmm good stuff just wasnt able to finish it
I was up at 6 am this morning for a pot of Kona ,Don Carlos #3 & a short walk in the morning rain, verry refreshing , I finished the #3 in the Qtr.Deck & came back in the house & took a nap hahahahaha , the wife didnt get me up till 9:30 . Bless her heart
The annual River regatta is going on this weekend in Bridgewater Pa on the Beaver river , last night was the decorated boat parade , not a bad way to spend a few hours with a cigar & a big mug of coffee & a rasin cookie ( made by the Amish bakers ) , & thinking about the great Amish made cigar I had this past week, it had to be the strongest cigar I have ever smoked , I think it was all wrapper just rolled into a tube , KICKED MY FORMERLY FAT @$$ all the way down the street & back again! Damm & get chills thinking about it !
Not much more going on , but if for some reason I remember somthing ( highly unlikly) dammm I am lucky to remember my name & adress at times ! well just in case I do I will let you know ! Enjoy, Vince

Hey Vince,

Happy anniversary to you and the mrs. brother!!!!!! Great to get back on track with your Sunday reads. I've been debating buying some of the Don Carlos line. Which would you say is the best?

I love the #3 in the mornings, & I smoke them all anytime of the day but for the first smoke of the day , # 3 is my favotite cigar
BY FAR , , the #4 is ok but small, the #2 is just to big for the morning ride to work or my morning walk, the robusto is ok for the walk & the president is a great smoke with a scotch & coffee after a hard day at the shop smoking cigars & listening to Jazz all day hahaha Enjoy, Vince
