Do you plan on using it for casual leisure (Sp?) or serious riding. Some Bike stores sometimes sell ones that have been traded in. I looked at a couple one time, they go through them and "tune" them, usually a good deal. I don't know if they offer these in all bike shops however.

get 2-3 year old used bike - better components - originally probably ran $6-900. Giant makes some good ones, as does Trek and Specialized.

I have a Giant ATX 880 - love it. But it's a beast to ride (fast) on paved roads. Wife got a road bike - kicks my ass.

Unless you're going offroading, might want to consider a hybrid.

I will mostly be riding this thing on paved roads and simple bike trails. I wont be doing any crazy mountain biking trails. I just want an all around good bike. I have come to the conclusion that I will have to bump my price range up between $500 and $600.

I just want a good everyday bike that if I need to, can go off road.

i've got a great trek hybrid (more geared toward road biking, but could handle easy trails i'm sure) that my dad bought for 350-400 like 5 years ago... i could look around later tonight for something like it... i'm sure they'd be a lot cheaper now if you could find a used one

Specialized... they make the best bikes, IMHO. Trek is not worth the money. I've had a few different specialized and all were great bikes. Check out your local bike shop, ride a lot of different bikes.

Nice. Which model did you get? One of us will have to jump the border and go for a ride and a smoke one day.

I am not sure what model exactly. It was only $400 so it isnt anything super fancy.

Let me know when and I would be up for it. Anywhere good to ride over there ?

There is a nice paved path along the water or there is the old landfill that has been converted to trails. It has a couple good climbs but nothing serious. I rode it a few times on my lunch hour when I was on course with Windsor PS.

Depending on how long of a ride, you can go from the bridge, east to were I live in Belle River. There is a bit of road involved but mostly paved trails, like the Ganatchio Trail. From the bridge to Hiram Walkers it's all along the waterfront.

Oh, and you can make a slight detour up Ouellette Ave. to the LCDH.

I start vacation on Sunday so I'm open any time in the next two weeks.
