AC Woes

Needed to vent (pardon the pun....)

We got home Monday from work and the first thing my wife says when she walks in is "sure seems hot in here, I wonder if the air conditioner is working right". I put my hand over the event - its blowing air, just not cold air like it should be. Uh oh....

Was around 96 in the Atlanta area yesterday and should be about the same today. Humidity is way up there so it isn't even a 'dry heat'. Figures our downstairs AC unit would pick the hottest days yet this year to stop cooling. Was 90 in our den last night when I got home with the ceiling fans running. Fortunately my cigars are in a desktop upstairs where the other AC unit is working fine and in a cooler in the basement where its relatively cool.

Have a HVAC guy coming tonight to see whats up. Hopefully it'll just need a shot or refrigerant and we'll be back in business.

We have the A/C guys coming tomorrow, too. Doesn't help me in my truck, where I don't even HAVE air conditioning...

It's bad enough to suffer the heat yourself, but the wife... I considered putting my wife in a motel the last time our ac went out.

Luckily the upstairs unit is working fine (fingers crossed that it stays that way) and we've been able to hang out up there some. Cool air coming down the stairwell from upstairs and a celiling fan running wide open have kept the den relatively comfortable. The kitchen is downstairs and on the west side of the house so cooking supper sucks big time. I would go out and fire up the grill but its somewhat worse outside than inside. Heck, I haven't even wanted to go out for a smoke late at night or early in the morning!

Timing is everything...good thing you have addl cooling possibilities. no basements in central or south florida. When the A/c goes down...its head in the freezer time.

Bad news...gotta have a part in addition to refrigerant...hope to have it fixed tomorrow night. The guy that came out said that the part was the only steel part on the unit and that they corrode out regularly - sounded to me like a part designed to fail. Oh well, guess we get to hang out upstairs or beneath the ceiling fan in the den a little longer...should have things back in working order tomorrow night.

To top it off - its too warm and humid outside to be comfortable with a smoke out on the deck....

You almost made it until the fall. Just another real month of heat before the windows would be enough. Should be in great shape for next year.
