Ouch - Computer Died

Earlier in the week I was using my computer when it suddenly froze and then turned off (computer ghosts?). Sadly it would not turn on again. I figured the power supply died and after testing it, that looked like the culprit. A new power supply later and nothing . After going through a testing process of plugging in items one at a time, it looked like my Nvidia 6800 was also fried. Ouchy. I replaced it with a Nvidia 7600GS with 512MB memory. It's not that much better than the 7600GT card but it was a lot cheaper and so far it's running fine. It appears noticably faster than the old 6800. So I guess I got off cheap - $150 is a lot better than a new machine and my computer will be good for another year or two. Plus it is really, really quiet.

I just hate it when this type of stuff happens, but the result turned out ok. But that $150 should have gone to cigars. :mumbles:

So the vid card and the PS fried? I hate it when that happens! Last year, I lost a PS, keyboard, scanner, and hard drive from a lightening strike. Almost cheaper to buy a new computer at that point...

I was sort of hoping for a new computer but this one should keep me ok for awhile. I just wish it died a day earlier when we finalized our lightning strike claims. But replacing a power supply and graphics card wasn't bad, as long as nothing else is going to die in the next few weeks. I have a laptop which I love but when I bought it I didn't get a gaming graphics card in it, so I need my desktop to play.

That's a pretty descent upgrade for your graphic card. Maybe mine will die soon too....
