Fires in Cali

Hey just a quick update. I know a lot of people have heard about the fires in san diego. One of our own (maybe more) has been evacuated ArgonEliazar86 (cody) and his family have been forced to leave due to the flames and a majority of my good friends from back home are seeking shelter as well.

So far my family is OK although they have packed to leave at a moment's notice. If you can keep everyone in SoCal in your thoughts and prayers that would be great.

Chris

thanks guys it means a lot.

I've been on the phone with firends and family all day. I couldnt get in contact with cody but from what I hear his house is OK for now and his family is safe. Almost every one of my friends is seeking refuge in areas not affected by the fires. My house is currently safe but there are two fires that are heading towards it. I'll keep eveyrone updated as I get information.

Thanks again for keeping southern Cali in your thoughts and prayers. It means a lot.

My grandma, aunt and uncle were evacuated this morning. Last I heard they were staying in their car in La Jolla due to closed roads and full hotels. Sounds like no fun to me.

I'll try to get a map up tomorrow sometime with the burn areas, but right now Escondido city is threatened only from the east, and that only up until San Pasqual Road, and from the south, though that area has already burned through and that fire is headed to Rancho Santa Fe. In the north we have a fire in Fallbrook which is heading south-west and last I heard had moved almost exclusively to Pendleton. There's one up north-east of Palomar Mountain, but it doesn't seem to be a major threat. Basically Escondido is totally surrounded, but all the surrounding fires seem not to be threatening the city at this moment. Down south we have the Harris fire burning through El Cajon toward the south-west, and in San Marcos there was/is a fire burning through Elfin Forest and San Elijo. The news makes these fires look and sound much worse than they really are. I spent a large portion of the day driving through the burning areas and it's not that bad. Then again, I'm kinda immune to fire danger. Well, that's all on SD, I'll update everyone again tomorrow sometime.

P.S. For those who were wondering (aka. Chris, since he's the only one who knows where my house is), our property has been torched, but all the structures are still standing and in good shape. This is actually the best possible outcome, because it means that even if the wind changes and pushes the fire through again, it won't take the house because all the fuel is already consumed. The only major casualty was... prepare yourselves... the spa!! Of all things to go, it had to be the best wintertime smoking location that I know of. Ah well, you can't win 'em all.

This must be a surreal experience for you all. Seeing this on the news is just so hard to comprehend. I pray for the safety of everyone involved.

It's pretty chaotic, but it's really not as bad as it sounds on the news. They sensationalize it way beyond what's reasonable. Then again, my family and I had our house burned to the ground 14 years ago and had to escape through several miles of flames to survive. So yeah, unless I"m actually on fire I'm not that phased by it.
