Excellent movie, great commentary on society, and crime and punishment

also one of Malcom Mcdowell's greatest movies, its up there with Caligula

Ditto on what Bully said. A lot of great movies came out back then that I would also recommend, like Straw Dogs, The Great Escape, Serpico, Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, Mash, Sleeper (my wife and I still laugh at this one), Catch 22, and what I think the new "I Am Legend" is a remake from, The Omega Man with Charleton Heston. Can't remember any more, it was the hippie era and things were a bit foggy!

I would also recommend reading the british version of the book, with 21 chapters, instead of the 20 chapter american version

It's a touching romantic comedy that I'm sure you will love! Perfect date movie!
Seriously, it is an awesome flick. Engaging and disturbing at the same time - one of Kubrick's best films. Zack's comments are dead on.

Clockwork Orange is a true one of a kind movie.

By today's standards it's still disturbing, but not nearly as shocking as it was back when it came out.

It is one of the must watch movies at some point in your life...and I highly recommend it. NO movie collection is complete without it.

Great movie!

Mithrandir: Great movies you listed! Also I saw "I am legend" last night, I would say it's a remake of "Omega Man". Tried to get the wife to watch "Omega Man" last week before we saw "I am Legend" but she fell asleep half way through.

BigBuddha76: High five on Dr. Strangelove and Blue Velvet.

Not much to add to what everyone else has said. This is a cult classic that you should see at least once. Can't count the number of times I watched it...

I have the book. Should I read that before watching the movie?

thanks for the recommendations everyone. I've been meaning to see it for a while now and I'm really looking forward to it now!

I'll have to see some of the other ones that I saw on your lists. A few of them (serpico and the great escape) I've seen but the others I still need to watch.

Thanks again!

Chris

Definitely read the book. The movie is great, from what I understand it is loosely based on true medical practices form the 20-60's. Very unique...you'll like it.
