Anyone collect pocket watches?

My dad collected pocket watches for about the last 15 years or so and had a collection of around 65 pocket watches. My brother and I got together last weekend to split them up. This one was my dad's pride and joy-a South Bend 328 The Studebaker that I now have. There were only 200 of them made a century ago and he owned 2 of them.

I know very little about collecting them, but I'm learning and will carry on the hobby in his honor.

Very cool!! Looks like its in incredible shape for being a century old.
Sounds like you might want to get a safe deposit box.

Sweet piece, Duane. Mark is right: (a) get it locked away; (b) check out NAWCC. I own a couple of pocket watches, but I'm a mechanical wristwatch guy. 30s-50s Hamiltons and 60s-70s Seiko autos, mostly. Cheap, cool and bulletproof. Some of the most amazing handcrafted products in modern history. Next to cigars, that is.

Welcome to the hobby, bro. IMO, the coolest fora are these:

I've been checking out that forum for a month or so now and mine is in better shape than the one that sold for $3,400. My brother has one that isn't in as good of shape(needs a new dial and a nice case would do wonders for it)and will sell it to me for $2k. I won an auction for a watch last night to have a nice dial and case. I have something like 15 other The Studebakers that bring an average value of $1k each.

But you're right, I've been talking to my wife about needing a safe deposit box.
