New GI Bill

For those of you who are still in the military or have recently gotten out, take a look at the new GI Bill.

Personally, I was ineligible for the Montgomery GI Bill. I did NROTC for college. You had to pay into the previous one, and if your undergrad was paid for, you couldn't do it. This was also true for those from the service academies. Once you're in past your initial commitment, you are eligible. Also, you don't have to pay into this one. It doesn't start paying out until August 2009, but it's gonna be great when it does. It pays the equivalent to the highest priced in-state school plus it pays a housing stipend of an E5 in your area as well as a $1000 stipend annually for books and supplies. Even with my scholarship to school, I'll be getting $850 per month plus the grand. I may even be able to buy cigars. All of you who may be eligible for this should definitely take advantage! You may even be able to transfer it to dependents. If you were in after 2001, take a look.

Dude I will be taking advantage of the current gibill in the spring semester hopefully and then utilize this for the rest of the time starting in fall. I am looking at a BS in biology so I can go to PA school. I'll be a 25 year old freshmen.

Sounds like a sweet deal. The BILL seemed to get more and more confusing over the years. I think it was in '77-'78 that I used to have soldiers having more throuble w/the, 'you pay a buck, we'll match it' GI Bill than it seemed worth. Congrats on your plan of attack.

I wanted to transfer it to my daughters but I got discharged in 2008...Man that sucks...Maybe it will change here shortly.
