WTF Are they Thinking II, III, IV

Running on a treadmill at the gym this morning, and my eyeballs and earballs are assaulted by the following this morning headline stories:

In Chapel Hill, North Carolina a teen takes a teacher hostage at his high school with a shotgun.......

In Tacoma, WA more teens suspected of planning to murder their classmates,

And in one that hits close to home, here in my almost hometown of Schnectady, NY a 20 year old stabs his grandmother to death. The victim, Marleen Hill, ran a very popular italian restaurant here. My mom and dad had been going there for over 30 years and knew her well. So sad......quite the generation coming up nowdays.

It's not the dopers that piss me off. Rarely does someone get baked and go "Let's go murder someone!" They're more likely to get baked and go "Let's go kill 2 sackfuls of Krystals!"

I know plenty of potheads. I tried it. I can count on 2 hands the number of times I've been high. I enjoyed it, and if it were legal, I'd probably smoke on weekends. But I stopped because I knew I enjoyed it too much, and I could see it becoming a big part of my life. I didn't like that picture.

But, I do see a big problem with kids of my generation. I call them kids because they're immature, for the most part. I feel like I was born 10-15 years too late, in regards to society. I identify more with older folks like my dad, or some of my professors.. or hell, REALLY old people like SeanGAR and Da Klugs!

I dislike a large part of my generation for their decayed morals, lack of drive, and deficient work ethic. What I dislike even more, however, is being lumped in with the rest of these jackasses, just because I'm young-ish. Sure, I'm 20 years old (at least, I will be in a month), I have longer hair, and I have piercings. I'm automatically a bad person. The motorcycle forum I'm a part of had a big debate about "long haired freaks with stuff in their faces"... Of course when I jumped in and said "Hey, wait, I've been a contributing member here for almost a year, but here's my picture!" and showed them myself... the debate died. Nobody had anything else to say.

Ok, sorry, that was a tangential rant.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that most of my generation sucks, but don't lump us all in with them!

I'll come down now..

Nick, just revel in being an exception to the rule (if there is a generality to be made here), and move along.

As an aside, this dovetails into a post I made the other day, that all of this is in the aftermath of the "gun control era" post 1968 Gun Control Act. You guys may recall I warned what happens when we believe that keeping our children ignorant is the way to keep them safe. Just two cents two think about.

Bwahaha... I guess most of my generation's problems can be blamed on horrible parenting practices. Sure makes a lot more sense han blaming them on TV or video games, eh?

The TV, movie, video game, debate is a great big copout for bad parenting.

Re: WTF Are they Thinking II, III, IV

My question is where were the parents in these children's lives?

When I was a child, my parents knew where I was and what I was doing at all times. As a teen, I had someone older buy me a package of cigarettes and would sneak out and smoke one everday. This lasted a week before my Dad found them under the bed where I had hid them. I don't know how he knew, but he did.

The common thread I see in these troubled children, is the parent's lack of involvment in their lives. Best thing parents could do for their children would be to throw out the f-n TVs/videogames, do more family acitivites, and stop handing everything to them on a silver platter.

I agree 100%, and never meant to imply otherwise. Guess I should have used more smileys in my post .

I also agree 100% with Jeff. Anytime I did something wrong, my dad knew about it. To this day, I don't know how. I can't wait till I'm a father, and the doctor hands me my son, and my special radar set, or trouble detector, or something!

It's all about talking to your kids, letting them know what's right and wrong!
