Insurance Open Enrollment :(

Just found out yesterday that my company has changed our health insurance for 2009

We now have 3 rates under $50k $119/month
over $50k $139/month
over $100k $159/month (all rates are for employee only)

Now here comes the kicker, anyone who is a smoker, now defined as, anyone having 2 cigarettes/snuff/cigar in any month is now a smoker and will pay an automatic $30 month fee in addittion to the monthly premiums. Yep thats right $360 a year if you smoke more than 2 cigars a month

anyone else going through this?

Steve
PS I'm afraid they'll be going after alcohol for 2010 and them are fightin' words!

Only smoke no more than two of these per month and you will be set.

you'd read my mind

i forgot to mention that this is a company enforced option and not from the insurance carrier.

yeah well they raised our co pay from $15/visit to $20 ($30 for a specialist) raised our deductible from $700/year to $1600 and decreased the company contribution from 90% to 85% (with it going to 65% by the next 3 years)

the only added benefit was a yearly checkup that is covered

My copays are $20 for primary care, $45 specialist $75 Non conforming specialist (one that doesn't play ball with the Ins co.) No deductible but $1500/$3000 Out of pocket on the 10% we pay. My Prescriptions go from $5 to $165 per script based on some quantum filament formula I guess...

All I can say is proove i. Our company did the same thing. Our coverage is significantly lower and the cost is higher. I dont blame my company, but the health insurance is lame at best.

Luckily, for me, my company pays for 100% of my health insurance. Dental is $19.00 a month and vision is $6.00 per month.

Ours just keeps covering fewer and fewer things, while the rates and co-pays continue to rise!

They are crooks...plain and simple....the companies do not want to pay for it so they say we need to do a price/rate configuration to find a way to screw the worker so that their bottom line looks better........FCies

No one has to know you smoke cigars. I don't...as far as you know.
