heat the shack

So, is anyone here familar with kerosene or propane heaters ?
i haven an non-insulated shed out back that i will be using for winter time smoking. I have everything set up in it ready to go.

I went out and bought a Tower Ceramic heater, it oscilates and blows out heat.
It pumps out a nice hot breeze but dosent really warm my shed up except if im sitting right in front of it. Its okay for now when we are in the 40s but its soon to be like 10degress.

So im curious if a Kerosene heater is better, ive never had one.
Do they put out a ton of heat ? that i will keep me warm in this shed.
the shed is ventelated. i have an out vent that im going to put a fan blowing outward with to blow out the smoke so i dont suffocate and vent out any and everything else.

So the shed is NOT leak free ! the doors have some gaps and such, but its built well.

This heater/blower is just not going to cut it out there

Any help?

unless it is airtight you will be ok with a kerosene heater

I am just about done with my shed 10x16ft insulated mostly,i have an electric heater small one that blows out heat and cigar smoke away so it works in two ways.I have a buddy propane heater i use for the majority heat,i got a 5ft adapter hose that fits a 20lb propane bottle, that has two settings low and high, works perfect. If you want to go with a single heat source propane makes so many different styles of heater clean burning no kerosene smell and stink on refill, did that last year .Won't use kerosene anymore...

Your problem will be getting whole room heat to 70* and that will be hard with out some type of forced air, with the leaks and no insulation..But yes no smell at all ,other than cigars I finally insulated mine,so i could get it to 70*.With no stinky forced air.

following this with some interest, as I'm in the process of trying to get my smoke shed up before too much longer - it's a 10x14 galvanized but I'm hoping to get some 'liquid nails' and line it with foam insulation. would like to slap a vent of some sort on it (I see that costco has a spanky solar powered one on their website) and then see what to do about warmth... my initial thought was to try a propane camp heater, but I'm getting the impression that it just ain't gonna cut it once it really gets cold another alternative for me is that I have an old wood stove that's been sitting on our back patio for a few years - slap that puppy in, put in a vent pipe for it, then get me a box or three of those fake fire logs so I can pop one in when I feel like a stick or two

You should be just fine w/one of those portable propane Mr Heater jobs. I have one in my two car garage mounted on the wall and it's comfortable, granted we never get below zero in my location, effective non the less.
In your small shed you should be able to strip down to your tommy bahamma's with that even on the coldest day.
Stock up on 1lb bottles at Sam's or Tractor Supply, etc.
For anyone else here is a link to some options.

The 20lb units, they pork out an ungodly amount of heat.

FWIW I recommend you weather proof and seal cracks & openings a little better. The mice will be migrating inside and setting up camp in short order.

Electric heat is certainly safer than using a propane or kero heater. If you use propane, use one that has an O2 sensor. Perhaps use propane to warm it up and an electric to maintain. ? I just don't want to hear about anyone asphyxiating themselves!

Chad this is what we use. It's a little bigger than the one we have but you will get the idea:http://www.homeandbeyond.com/prod-00...sku-0052934-00
It heats a 14x20 garage that is uninsulated. If you go with the Mr. Buddy heater you will go through a shitload of one pound cylinders. I use one in my ice fishing shanty. Like John said you will want alot of ventilation with this heater. Last year we were herfin it up and had a few to many cocktails and after awhile our lighters wouldn't light. Good thing we were able to figure out the reason before it was too late!
