The contests are a cool idea but, I noticed that nobody in the poll voted that they did or are gonna buy any merchandise. Wouldn't be better to just price the stuff reasonably rather than have to give it away? That way everybody could easily get something.

Not an attack on anybody, just my .02.

$85 for t-shirt and hat? Am I on a cigar website or at an LA Lakers game? (LOL).

They do look nice, Jon, but I can't see paying that much. I'm with Matt on this one. Price them more reasonably than giving them away in contests. I don't see how giving them away recoups any of your costs of purchasing them.

My guess is that you bought a limited quantity to "test the waters" to see who well they'd see, so you had to pay a higher per-piece cost. Maybe after the site gets up and operational and proves to be a success Jon can buys shirts and hats in larger quantities and then the prices offered for them to the users will be lowered.

I really dont want to sell them - its a SUPER hassle for me to order, to ship, at a loss per item. Id rather give them away to promote the sites and promote contests/activity on the forums and for the sites. I do appreciate your thoughts though.

You could always look into Cafe Press, which does all the work for your and their set-up costs are fairly reasonable. People would order them directly through Cafe Press's website and a month end they send you the profit from any sales. That way there's no hassle involved on your end.

Of course I've heard that some people don't like Cafe Press's quality, but I've never had a problem with anything I've ordered from them.

Rob Heming of Blowin' Smoke uses Cafe Press for Blowin' Smoke's merchandise and I've seen some of their shirts, mugs and stuff, and the quality looked fine to me.

With Cafe Press you can also order your own merchandise, such as when you need stuff for contests, and when you order your own you "pay" the cost of the stuff, so you're not laying out additional money.
