Making the switch to Apple

I have been die hard PC for years but I think the day has come to make the switch to Mac. Any of you made the switch? Any suggestion for making a smooth transition? The Macs just seem like they are ahead of the curve and the power in the workstations are brute force.

I got a Macbook Pro a few years ago, then when I started college I bought a new Gateway. Soon I'm gonna get a new Macbook Pro. I like Macs much more then this Vista crap and the rest of the Windows products.

I bought a Macbook Pro about 10 days ago. I've always been a die hard PC user but had been think about a Mac for a while. Dealing with Vista finally pushed me over the edge. I haven't fully made the transition yet. I still have a lot to learn about OS X, but I'm happy I made the switch.

Daniel, you won't be sorry. The Macbook will be a breath of fresh air. Some things are going to be different for sure, but your ease of use will increase dramatically as your frustration with windoze bloatware will decrease just as much. Plus, those new Macbooks are like freaking Mercedes. They ROCK!

OK I went to the MAC store yesterday and kicked tires. I decided to go with the MAC Pro for video editing. Heading to the store now to go get it. Thanks guys for the help. I want a faster video workflow since it will be a big focus here on CL for me from now on. Less time wasted means more time with family. The software can bridge any video format with ease so this is a big plus for future work as well.

Man I love that whole MAC store. Everything in there is awesome. I really wanted one of the nice screen displays and maybe some extras like more RAM, Hard Drive, etc. but it will have to wait.

Something interesting I played with last night is that video software comes with a DVD solution that is in the package. I never had DVD production capability in a single package before. I know that on this latest trip to Nicaragua I shot over 7 hours of video which is more than enough to produce a DVD. I am going to see if I can maybe make a DVD of it. I think it would be cool to try to make one. Yes I am a big nerd.

Yeah, Mac stores are great. I love just wandering around in them messing with all the stuff. I love the 24" iMacs.

I could spend hours messing with everything. From what I hear is that the iMacs are one of the best bang for your buck. It just looks really clean and the programs out of the box seem great. They even have some cool sound systems too. The one question I never did ask was if the iMacs are upgradable at all.

See, and I think that DVD premier would be an awesome reason to have a herf....so in the words of our pop culture phenom, Captain Picard...make it so. Yeah, I'm a nerd too, I just hide it better than most.

Glad you made the switch. I switched to Mac OSX last year after being frustrated with Windows Vista, and I have not regretted it. I was nervous about switching since I had been a Windows user for 10 years. The transition was difficult at first, but once I became accustomed to working on a Mac I was so impressed at it's ease of use and versatility. I recommend taking the free workshops offered at the Apple store. They can teach you all the of basics and how to use Mac applications, including video editing software. The only thing I miss is not being able to run some of the applications I used to use with Windows, but that can be easily fixed with Boot Camp.

Good luck

Thanks, I made the trip back to the Apple store again. I really find that I am going to need to stay out of there. Just too many toys.
