Robert please refrain from this words and that tone. This thread was not viewed by the Mods as a political thread because it was about a TV Host and the price he thanks gas should be. This was not a thread about Obama, or anything he said or did.

To the average Joe $/gallon for gas is a real hardship. In my opinion, Brokaw needs to be fired for evening making such a stupid comment!

Here's a commentary on the show from a website I found:

With Gas Prices Down Brokaw Wants To Tax Them To $4 A Gallon

If you needed any more proof that liberal media members don't give a darn about the state of the economy, or the American people, and instead just want to raise taxes, you got it Sunday when Tom Brokaw advocated gas prices, which have plummeted recently, be kept at $4 a gallon with the government keeping the added cost.

Coming just two days after it was announced that America lost over 500,000 jobs in November, Brokaw, in what could be his last performance as "Meet the Press" host, actually asked Barack Obama why taxes shouldn't be dramatically raised on gasoline with revenues to be spent on alternative energy, and to send a signal that folks won't be able to "just fill up [their] tank for 20 bucks anymore."

This came in response to president-elect Obama uttering another disturbingly socialist statement that should make clearer his spread the wealth motives.
Brokaw is an idiot, which is why I stopped watching Meet the Press. At least Russert kept things balanced.

I will agree Brokaw is an idiot for making that statement. But he is entitled to his opinion, and unlike a lot of people who are just pointing fingers he is making suggestions, although misinformed ones but suggestions on how to end the predicament that we as nation are facing. If more americans used their voices to express ideas instead of discontent maybe we could finally end the financial fiasco we are all facing.

Sure, point fingers and blame are standard practices to both of the primary political parties here. No president has come into office without having all this crap dredged up and recycled each election cycle.

I personally think the problem is indifference. This was a record breaking election...2/3 of people voted. Only 2/3. How sad of a statement is that?

Ok guys lets tone down on the attacks. Plain and simple take each others view as simply that, a view.

As saod before this thread was not viewed by the Mods as a political thread because it was about a TV Host and the price he thanks gas should be.

Come on guys we talk in cigars shops about stuff but be civil about it and more people will feel better about joining the discussion. Lets keep this from going south.

I'm sorry.

I wasn't trying to turn this into a political discussion. I didn't think my post was partisan, either way.....

BTW, It's Er-s-kine....

you should keep in mind that for some people military is not an option.. I wanted to join the Navy (like my father, who did like his father).. I was denied when they discovered my heart condition..

Not saying that's the case for everyone, but just because they don't serve in the miltary, doesn't mean they aren't serving their country.

In a way, many non-military folks serve their country every day. Whether it be a delivery man who delivers much needed documents and letters all around the world, a farmer who grows wheat, corn, cattle or dairy, an engineer for the transportation departments, a programmer who develops applications for uses in banks or schools..

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and in one way or another, everyone serves their country.

Just checking the posts... let's play nice and no personal attacks. If it starts getting into a real political discussion and it will be closed.

Keep to the topic of what was said by a newsman. No reason to start getting heated and starting to flame each other.

Chip 063, you are new on here, way too early to start picking fights. Calm it down...

You want a suggestion? I've got one. Get the government out of the business of business - out of the way. As Pres. Reagan said, "Government is not the solution to our problems. Government IS the problem."

My opinion: The purpose of government is to create and maintain a level playing field so that the free enterprise system can be allowed to work. Giving tax money (or money printed out of thin air) to banks, auto makers, or anyone else is NOT the purpose of government. But, then, I'm a conservative.

Chuck, all we are asking from the members is to be civilized in their responses in this thread. I did first bring this up 7 minutes after the thread was started knowing that someone would loose their cool. The point of the matter is that this is a predominately cigar related forum and not a political forum. If this gets out of hand it will be closed.

I think Brokaw purchased a lot of stock at a high price and is losing his a** right about now!! Buy high, sell low Tommy Boy!

My 2¢

Yeah, what up with the companies adding the fuel surcharge in and not taking it out. I recently dropped all of my pricing to reflect the the gas pricing and my biggest supplier, maybe not for long, said he's leaving it as is until the dust settles, whatever that means.
