Vonage just added 5 countries that are free calls.

For those with Vonage or have thought about it they have added 5 more countries that are free to call. Italy, France, Spain, UK and Ireland.

I been using it for about a year and so far so good. Heck for 27 something a month I am happy.

So, you've got me interested. Is this a web-based phone system? After a brief look at the website it looks like it includes internet routers, phones, etc.

So you use this for your home internet access AND for your cellular phone service?

Sound pretty cool. I am going to have to look in to it.

Thanks bro,

Doc

It is internet based and home only. And you uses the phones you currently have. They plug right into the back of the router. You must have hi-speed DSL or Cabel. Cell service I do not think they have.

One cool thing I found with it is that I can take the router with me any where I want that has a high speed connection and plug it in and anyone calling my number can reach me. I could go to England hook router up and you call my Texas number and it would ring in England. Kinda cool. I have realy liked the service and the sound quality is great.

Okay, I just finished reading their FAQs so I a bit less clueless. Sounds very cool. Would you say that you have saved money doing it this way? I'm new to internet phones and will have to bring myself up to speed.

Thanks again for the info.

YES I HAVE SAVED.

I was paying 65 bucks a month for phone here at the house. Any long distance call cost me extra. I did not have voice mail, or call waiting or caller ID.

I was all ready paying for hi-speed internet. I pay 27 something each month now for vonage. I got long distance to Canada, US, PR, and the new 5 countries. I got call waiting, caller ID, voice mail, have set up to have vonage send me a email telling me when I get a new message. And ONE cool thing is, you can access your message from any computer with internet access. And you can have it set up to send an email with the voice mail in .wav format when someone leaves a message. It is a hell of a lot of stuff for 27 bucks.

Re: Vonage just added 5 countries that are free calls.

I got Vonage back in late January. It is saving me lots of money, but I think my router may be faulty. It seems I have to reboot it several times per month, and that involves having to reboot the phone router, the regular router and the cable modem, sometimes having to repeat the process several times. And no, it is not a cable problem, my internet works fine, only the Vonage lines cut out frequently.

So do you have no phone if the power goes out? Or if the ISP is down?

BUT you can set it to automatically forward the call to any other number in the event that you have no ISP service or power. It senses that something is wrong and just sends it to the phone number you set as a back up in case there is a problem.
