Speaking as a Baptist, that church is so far out on the right of Baptist thought it's actually a new branch way out at the end of the tree, the shithouse rat branch, as in "crazy as a...."

Re: Some people should just not be Americans

I'm a Southern Baptist and I have to deal with politics every day in my job. I try to avoid discussions about politics and religion in my social life (in some strange way, I guess CS is part of my social life ... sad isn't it?).

Discussions about politics and religion have way too much potential to make people angry. Here is a thread that mixes both topics. Somebody ought to slap me for saying anything.

Hmmm. Freedom of Religion. Freedom of Speech. As much as it irks me, I guess that means we have to tolerate the extreme wingnut religious fanatics who seem to be peacefully making fools of themselves in Iowa. Btw, 500 feet from a funeral service isn't far enough.

Honestly, I'm much more worried about the other wingnut religious fanatics killing our solders in Iraq and building nuclear bombs in Iran.

I wonder what God thinks about all these people making so much trouble all over the world in His name?

You know, she's so keen on invoking the wrath of God...

There's only one rule you have to remember, regardless of your religious beliefs. Treat everyone as you would like to be treated.

That church is only out for one thing, media coverage, and they are doing a fine job of it. Who ever heard of them before they started doing their thing at military funerals?

If you haven't already heard of the Patriot Guard, check out their website, www.patriotguard.com . the group was founded specifically to deal with this kind of crap.

Uhhh, they've been around for years and doing these types of demonstrations. They usually are out demonstrating at gay events.

What does identity varification have to do with this? We already know she's a wingnut.

Re: Some people should just not be Americans

WOW! That's one wacked out, inbred, backwoods, fanatic, cult-like family there. Way to extreme in thier beliefs. Those are the types of people that make a tolerant world impossible. What a shame. The best we can do is ignore thier message and support our soldiers the way they deserve. I'm proud to live in a place where even people like that can speak thier mind but I'm ashamed that humanity produces ingnorance like that. What a shame.

Re: Some people should just not be Americans

There is a large group of biker veterans that have pledged to attend every funeral these idiots say they will disrupt.
They stand respectfully with their backs to the protesters shielding the funeral attendees and family from seeing the protestors or their signs. They play hymns and whatever is appropriate such as the Marine's Hymn just loud enough to drown out the protestors.
Word is it has been pretty effective. Some of these guys ride hundreds of miles to take their turn to blunt the impact these sick morons can have on a greiving family.
I am still looking for the link I had concerning this because they are looking for "peaceful" veterans as volunteers and accepting gas money donations. If I find it I will post it.

Please do, Mary. I would very much like to be involved in this, being retired

I think those bikers also hold up large American flags to block out the protestors as well... could be wrong but i think i remember hearing that.
