I researched it long and hard before I picked ONE site to belong to. Im not the kind of guy that can handle jumping back and forth between many sites so I wanted to pick the right one the first time. I think I did a good job of choosing.

Re: the culture of other forums

I signed up for a few other forums when bored, but none seem to have as friendly an attitude as puff, particularly as a relative newbie to the cigar world. I am a member of some car forums, and the most successful and most fun to participate on are the ones where everyone is made to feel welcome, provided they have good intentions. I am not interested in drama, ego glorification, or blood feuds for lack of a better term. I'm just here to talk with friends about cigars, maybe share a few.

This is my first forum but I can't imagine someone treating someone in that way. Hmm, it wouldn't be a very wise man that spoke to me in such a manner.

Re: the culture of other forums

This forum seems to be much less rigid than others that have the standard hierarchy. Most have their Grand PooBah, who cannot be disagreed with, and his attendant lackies who defend him to the nth degree. Cigarpass is just one. On another, if you aren't smoking a ten year old CC, while sipping a 20 year old scotch, while sitting on your deck, watching the sun set over the ocean, you are pretty much a bumpkin.

Re: the culture of other forums

I rolled in here in November or December of 08, it was still the Stogie site. I lived through the change over and liked the way Jon put it together and rolled all the groups together.
I like the people here and they have been more helpful than I can say. I have learned so much about cigars and because of that I believe I have the basics down and can find my way around B&M's better and have a better idea how to buy, store and smoke.

It's a great site with a lot of great people.

A lot like organized religion in a sense. The majority have their own beliefs and if you don't agree you move to a different church/forum.

And just like religion if someone challenges the majority it becomes blasphemy right away that you would question.

The folks that visit, and the moderators are what make a forum.
And the "wait for the 9mm vs .45 response", yeah, I've seen that!
The anonymity of the internet, as suggested, has left manners in the dust.
It's simple for some, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

Re: the culture of other forums

Its all about having a good time for everybody, rather you have been smoking cigars for 100 years or 1 day! I don't understand how other forums can be such snobs and treat new members bad, thats not fun for me. I would say 90% of the rules we have here at Puff is to make sure everybody is treated equal and friendly. Thats why my a$$ is here!! And if anybody every needs any help or has a question they don't want out in the open just PM me, thats why I'm here.

This is what I mostly see on forums. One of the cronies will post something inane, idiotic, and have very little to do with cigars/tobacco, like "I like cat food". And the "attendent lackies", cronies, and wannabes will chime in immediately about how they have been eating cat food for years, and how great it is and how intelligent and refined they all are.

Makes me think they have very little going on in their lives outside their little cyber cigarboard world to justify their existence.

I browse a few boards and I have learned to filter out the big talkers and recognize the ones who have real insight. I post much less, read more selectively, and pay attention to the posters that have intelligent input. The "catfood" type posts I mention above have become comical to me.

Ha. When I read the "catfood" part I almost fell out of my chair.

Yeah I'm very selective about the posts I read. I try to only post when I actually have something to say and refuse to get into a pissing match with elitist jerks in their moms basement.

This site is one of the better I frequent in terms of politeness and courteousy.
