the culture of other forums

After a post on a ____________ forum, a typical response might be......

Sports "What kind of an idiot has that opinion??? What are you, a moron or a piece of trash? You even made an grammatical error in your post, dumba$$!"

Coffee "well, if you REALLY liked coffee you would have better brewing equipment. You like sugar? Maybe you should post on some OTHER forum *sniff*"

Cigars "I am glad you enjoyed the cigars I sent. If you liked those, you may also like ______. I personally don't care for them but many people do."

Which forum would you rather participate in? Any other examples?

Re: the culture of other forums

Seems to me forums are only as good as the members participating in them.

Without naming, (which I don't think is in good taste), or going into specific practices and posting mentalities of other forums, I chose this forum as my cigar forum "home", partly because of the way the members are treated... with respect towards one an other and respect for their opinions.

One example...Recently, I've seen more and more new members and novices to the "leaf", coming in and asking questions, that many of the longer members have heard over and over. Yet the responses are answered in a respectful manner. Posters should never feel intimidated to ask questions or give their opinions.

This only helps to justify, that I've chosen the best fit for me!

Re: the culture of other forums

I remember an expression from my younger days, probably something my mother or Grandmother said, "It takes all kinds."

We find value where our heart & mind allow. Of the groups of people that I regularly get together with to share my thoughts & life with… both "online" and off… I find myself continually making choices regarding the value of my contribution and subsequent reciprocation. This evaluation determines the depth of my involvement.

To paraphrase Richard Alpert, "I'm here now."

As a noob who has asked some of the stupid questions that you guys are referring to, I really appreciate this forum. I love the way everyone kinda takes the noobies under their wings to teach them the ways of the leaf. Thank you all of my BOTL's!

Forums are only as good as the rules that govern them.

Richard, my grandma also was fond of saying "It takes all kinds (to make the world go 'round)"

Re: the culture of other forums

People have got to the point that manners are of no use. Now you have the internet where you can be an ass and nobody will give you the buttkicking you so much deserve for your lack of respect of others... what can you expect from most forums. Heaven forbid you ever start a 9mm vs. .45 vs. 10mm vs. lasergun vs. lightsaber vs. cigars vs. pipes vs. whatever thread on most forums. Complete chaos/namecalling/freeforall bs. Anyway... good forum.

Re: the culture of other forums

I belong to several forums, and those of you who belong to the same forums that I do readily recognize my name. There is one, that shall remain nameless for the sake of my not wanting to be raped, that I don't go to as much as I used to. I knew that the members of this forum were very uptight, but the more that I get into other forums that I am a part of I go to this one less and less. Mostly because most of the guys are just assholes, and they are ready to trash you at the slightest thing that they see as an indiscretion. This doesn't help new people want to remain part of the community.

Their attitude basically is, "If you can't be as elite as me, there are other places not as good that you can go to. It pisses me off because if you want to have a strong community, you should be there to help people not tear them down because you don't agree with what they say or how they say it.

My grandmother used to say, "Well the world don't move to the beat of just one stroke. What might be right for you, might not be right for some..."

Now that I think about it, I don't think that was my grandmother.

Cheers,
Michael

Should I just come out and say it then? Cigarpass? That's not an all bad forum but when you said uptight that's what came to my mind.
