Good feedback so far. Keep it coming. Which one should I review next. Tat Frank, Illusione Dark Prince, GoF Carlito Churchill or 2001 SLR ISOM?

I say the Frank! I have yet to smoke one of those. That, and the Tat black are the only one's I haven't tried.

I usually let my good cigars sit a little then smoke them. If I'm not going to smoke them then why bother buying them.

Im the same as most, I save and age my hard to find sticks.
I like to enjoy them on special occassions smoking them myself or giving them as a gift.

Squid® doesn't really save them; unless you consider aging the same as saving. Due to a traffic accident some time ago, (long story) I don't save cigars for later, but enjoy them as I please.

Re: Do you smoke ro save your rare cigars?

I hate to say this but I am one of those that seems to save those "special" cigars, especially those I shouldn't have. It's not that I have anything so rare that it can't be replaced, but it just soooo difficult for me to pick one and smoke it, especially those that I only have one of.

I know I should heed the message mhailey posted "SMOKE THEM. You never know what tomorrow may bring, and this breath may be your last." besides how will I ever know how they tasted....right!!!

Re: Do you smoke ro save your rare cigars?

Great advice Andy! I do save sticks for special occasions, but lately I have been wanting to enjoy the good ones too--for no particular reason. It seems that just smoking and savoring a fine cigar, becomes a special occasion. I have a friend that habitually refuses to smoke his good cigars. He keeps buying budget sticks to smoke, and he sits on the good ones, watching them pile up. Its like a weird squirrel nut-storing thing...Life, and cigars, are for enjoying!

Re: Do you smoke ro save your rare cigars?

A couple of BOTL came by for dinnier and a smoke yesterday. We pulled a few smokes out of the humidor and smoked one which had been in the humi for a while, was to most tasteless stick I have had in years. It was a &^%(*#()%^, A very good brand. It lost flavor firm sitting. Let him know that you can ruin some cigars by letting them sit too long..

I was having a discussion with Pete Johnson last week about his new cigar, La Verite, he told me to squash the aging myth. As we smoked LaVerite, he asked me for my opinion. It was a great cigar. Leathery yet creamy getting spicy with a cocoa reaching chocolate in the second part and spice in the third. Why do I bring this up. This cigar went from seed to smoke in ten months. ONLY ten months. A wonderful cigar.

Don't look for this cigar. It won't be released to the public until mid to late 2010. This was a personal prototype he gave me to review.

So age does not always mean much. And saving sticks to impress other people, or yourself, is an ego trip. Smoke them and share the experience.

As I started to say, sometimes aging kills the cigar.

Re: Do you smoke ro save your rare cigars?

I'm the exception. I'm a saver. Cigars, money, booze, it doesn't matter I save everything. My wife gifted me some expensive sticks and they still sit in the humidor in spite of her demands I smoke one. I've continued to buy them. But they just sit. I still have an unopened bottle of scotch a gentleman gave me 24 years ago, the thank you note is still tucked inside the box with the bottle. (and I am a scotch drinker!!!) I've never done without scotch of cigars, just never grabbed those.

It isn't as if I haven't had special occasions, I bought and sold a business in that time, oldest son went to college, middle son won district as a sophomore, youngest son went to regions as a freshman. I always grab a celebratory smoke, just don't reach for those "special" or "rare" sticks.

All of you have made good points. The way it is now, there will be alot of mourners at my funeral smoking some very fine cigars.

I need to change that, but it is just the way I am.

Tomorrow is my 23rd anniversary, maybe I will grab one of the sticks my wife gave me years ago and smoke it. I know it will tickle her to death.

Re: Do you smoke ro save your rare cigars?

A Special cigar is subjective. If I only have one of a hard to get Opus then I will not just smoke it. I will wait until I can really enjoy it. If I have an after noon off, the weather is right, and I have the time, fire up a great cigar.

**Opus was used for lack of a better choice.

i've started to smoke some of my "better" cigars at least once a week or every other week at the most. no sense in saving them.
