I took it to a watch shop in a mall once and they wanted $300 and to send it out for 6 weeks. Needless, to say, I spent $40 on the watch and wasnt gonna pay that. I cant send/recieve PMs yet (my post count seems to be stuck on 29), but LMK if you are interested and I'll post my email address.

I'll be honest with you ive only been at this for about a year. Before that ive had no watchmaking experiece, and while im now very comfortable with the watches i work on i have not really experienced working on diffrent brands (allthough really a quartz is a quartz). A bigger problem is that right now i dont have the tools to do it at home. Then you have to take into acount with a watch that old, things are likely to break. Usualy you see tritium breaking loose once you start pulling the hands off, not all the time, but often. The best thing to do is just change the movement which isnt really that hard though. And another issue is i just dont know where to find parts, expesialy if you looking for a reseal. I'm not sure where to find gaskets and whatnot.

Anyway, hit me up in about 6 months if you havent had it fixed yet. Im hoping to start collecting sometools in this time period, and buying junk watches from the flee market, just to get farmiliar with other models.

Lol, if your not super particular about it and want me to take a look at it anyway let me know and you can send it to me. Im sure I could fix it, but i get nervous working on actual peoples watches. (As strange as it sounds, at work its just a watch, but when u put a face to a watch you become much more carefull). So let me know. The charge would be whatever it costs me for a new movement. ($25-$35)

the winder concept is simple. It replicates the motion necessary for the rotor to constantly turn (relative to the watch) by rotating the watch in a circle. If you notice, every automatic watch winder is set at an angle - that's because a flat rotation is no benefit, since the center of gravity of the rotor never changes - it's always at its lowest point. Watch winders are always tilted or designed to have the face of the watch perpendicular to the floor, so that the rotor doesn't spin with the watch, but rather stays still as the watch rotates around it (sort of opposite of what wearing it does, but with the same effect).

I just broke the band on my Cartier Roadster right at the base. At least it comes with two bands, but I was loving the black leather one, damn!

Re: Any Watch Collectors?

I would love to collect the real things, but with three growing kids that is not happening. I did pic up a bunch of fakes while in Afghanistan. Not the real thing, but all very nice watches in there own right especially for what I paid.

I also have a thing for antique pocket watches.

Re: Any Watch Collectors?

Not a collection, just two - Rolex SS sub mariner and a Rolex Two tone 18k/ss sub. I have trouble collecting cigars and weapons. I tend to get over board with these things.
