Re: Any Watch Collectors?

not a collector, in fact i only own one watch that i just bought. have not worn one in about 10 years but lately have had more interest for whatever reason.

anyway, it's a NOS 1970's Swiss Titus and i paid about $100 for it. i think it looks great and i have no worries about being mugged. the last thing i want to do especially in today's troubled times with so many unemployed and desperate people is to draw any unnecessary unwanted attention to myself.

sorry to rain on your parade, but i guess i just don't really get into the scenes where you boast about all your fancy expensive toys, it just doesn't do anything for me. in fact it seems kindof vain.

hmmm, i was just reminded of why cigar smokers are many times stereotyped as snobbish

anyway, enjoy yours i am sure they are very nice

Re: Any Watch Collectors?

That is a nice watch (the NOS). I guess like anything, there are many reasons why a person might collect watches. For me, it isn't about the vanity, I happen to think the watches are just gorgeous. True works of art. And when you start to look at how they are made, the delicate pieces that all fit together to make it tick, it is fascinating. My dad told me of a story when he was about 12 he took his dads pocketwatch apart, piece by piece. He spread the entire thing over the table, there must have been 100 pieces. He put the entire thing back together and it worked perfectly. Ever since I heard that story as a young man I was fascniated with watches, though was never brave or stupid enough to take one apart

Thats a hell of a collection. What is the watch in the front center turned sideways? And what are the two on the bottom row, #3 and #4 of the box on the extreme left. they look like they have lunar displays.

Re: Any Watch Collectors?

I have a few knockaround watches but the watch I wear to the office is the Rolex SS & White Gold Date Just w/ Diamond Bezel and Diamond Dial. Wescoaststogie, sorry if you find me snobbish for sharing, your opinions truly mean nothing to me though.

I gotta admit I am a sucker for a Rolex. My GMT is around 40 years old, and my 18k President is around 45 years old. My friend just bought a nice A. Lange & Sohne I think I am going to look into one of those, very nice watches.

Coop D - Folex? Is that a fake Rolex? There is an interesting website, repgeeks.com that is a community of guys who collect 99% accurate replicas. I happened upon it the other day and was amazed at how perfect some of the watches could be. The Rolexes had sweeping second hands, hack-mechanism (second hand stops when crown is pulled out), authentic markings, holographic Rolex emblem, etc. Sometimes it amazes me what China can produce.

Re: Any Watch Collectors?

Folex is a fake Rolex. My Uncle is a watch collector. some of the watches he has are amazing!!!

He actually got duped and paid $2,000 for a fake that was 99% authentic with the sweep, the markings, etc.

I wear it since I can't tell the difference, and feel like I can actually afford a 20K rolex!
