I've been there a few times, hope you had a chance to ride some of the great roads there! I've been many places but that place ranks as one of my favorites

Yeah we did Iron mountain road, then up through Deadwood and Spearfish. Did alot of the tourist stuff too. Mount Rushmore, Reptile Gardens, Kangaroo Ranch and the Sturgis County Courthouse for our wedding....I know...romantic! I just wish they would move that to May or October......way too hot around here in August.

The weather can be weird at times. If you go again do the needles highway. Theres like 8 switchbacks in a 8 mile stretch. Totally awesome. Buffalo herd on the side of the rode and all that great stuff. Some of the better riding you will do. This for me could be a whole new thread!!!!!

Yeah needles was the other one. With all the tunnels. We came out of that last tunnel and almost got taken out by a kid on a softail that took the curve too fast. I saw his face when he hit the brakes thinking that would keep him outta my lane! He was scared. We were on the shoulder almost lookin down at a drop off taller than a skyscraper. Lots of nuts up there. It takes us about 35 minutes to get from NE to Yankton SD and it started raining on us like 10 minutes after that. We rode from there to almost Wall Drug before it stopped!! And it was heavy too. Then it quit and was nice from thursday to wednesday. mid to high 80s. Half way home it started getting nasty hot tho.

Re: bike trailer

Very nice. Inventive use of a 55 gal drum for sure!
Twenty years ago at Sturgis saw a guy who had a trailer similar to yours but his drum was a replica of an old style HD oil can. Those of us over 55 can recall the squat cans originally steel, then cardboard. His was painted very well....50 wt IIRC. I may have a photo of it. When I get back home I'll look for it. Some of those 20+ year back Sturgis photos may be interesting anyway.

Very well done.

Ive seen a few trailers like that. I bid on some full oil cans on Ebay but they bring way to much.

Ive seen well into the $20 to $40 range for the cardboard cans. But those are really really excellent ones. I havent checked in a long time tho.
